DIY watch with photos for the garden. How to make a clock for the kitchen with your own hands (51 photos)

A stylish wall or table clock can radically influence the mood in the interior and add some of its own flavor to it. And wrist chronometers can change a person’s image. However, you can spend a lot of time searching for a suitable option and still not find what you need. In today's article we bring to your attention ideas on how you can make a watch yourself; the master class describes in detail various techniques for making and decorating watches.

DIY watch made from a record

From the plate, using the decoupage technique, you can make very beautiful timepieces, which can become a gift for loved ones, especially those who are constantly late.

1. Find an unnecessary vinyl record and remove the label. It is better to choose one so that the middle is white - it is almost impossible to paint red with white acrylic.

2. We purchase a clock mechanism or take it out of an unnecessary watch.

3. Prime the plate from a spray can. You can simply paint the surface with acrylic using a sponge, but further work will be more convenient if you prime it with an aerosol. Dry it.

4. Use a sponge to paint the background. We chose a slightly golden acrylic. Waiting for it to dry again.

  • coat the surface with glue;
  • wet the card;
  • apply the card to the adhesive surface;
  • Apply another layer of PVA on top;
  • we expel all air bubbles from under the card with our fingers or a brush;
  • dry with a hairdryer.

6. Glue rice paper on top. We work with it the same way as with a regular decoupage napkin.

7. Apply at least 3 layers of varnish.

8. We make marking drawings and paste numbers of the appropriate size.

9. We cut the hole that was sealed during the process again; After turning the scissors a couple of times, we enlarge the hole for the clock mechanism to the desired size.

10. Insert the mechanism and put on the hands.

11. If the mechanism does not come with a hinge, you can glue it with Moment glue.

12. Also, if necessary, the arrows can be painted in a contrasting color.

13. Insert the battery.

So we learned how to make a wall clock with our own hands, the master class also revealed to us the features of working using the decoupage technique.

Coffee clock

We continue to use decoupage to decorate the watch, but we can also use another decoration option. In this case, we will make our own watches from coffee beans, and the master class below is dedicated to this very topic.

Materials:

  • blank with a hole in the center;
  • clockwork;
  • a napkin with a beautiful coffee-themed design;
  • coffee beans
  • priming;
  • water-based decoupage varnish;
  • colored acrylic;
  • contour on glass - silver, gold, bronze;
  • stained glass paint;
  • sponge, brush, regular and rubber roller, paper file, toothpick;
  • PVA glue.

1. Prime the surface of the workpiece.

2. Paint one side with white paint, the other with brown.

3. Apply PVA glue diluted in a ratio of 1:2 onto a dry surface. We wet the napkin and glue it on top. Cover with glue again. We apply a wet stationery file and roll it on top with a roller, getting rid of air bubbles. Leave until completely dry. Then we coat it with varnish.

4. Using a contour, draw the boundaries of filling with coffee beans.

5. After 10-20 minutes we can start decorating with grains. To do this, cover a small area stained glass paint and carefully place the coffee on it in random order, moving it towards each other with a toothpick.

6. After an hour, the paint will dry and everything will stick.

7. The dial can be made from improvised materials, the same coffee beans, you can draw numbers using an outline. Using the same outline, you can draw additional details: even butterflies, if you think they are appropriate.

8. All that remains is to insert the clock mechanism and the battery into it.

Such a clock can be hung in the kitchen: if you have not varnished the grains, they will give off an aroma for a long time.

And other decoration methods:

Hello! Remember, as you taught your kids about time, that it can be measured using seconds, minutes, etc.; and that there is a special device for this. Or perhaps you still have to tell your little ones about all this? Then I will suggest one very effective method. Together we need to make a clock with our own hands for children from cardboard. You can devote your working time to telling a story about short seconds, minutes rushing forward, and such huge hours that seem to last forever, especially for kids. Yes and creative work will not remain without a trace, the little ones develop by doing it.

Ideas

What to hide for modern man no matter how big or how small, the wrapper is important. Even the same candy may seem tastier if it is wrapped in a candy wrapper with your favorite movie character, rather than in parchment. Therefore, the learning process should be packaged in a beautiful wrapper: use your favorite Lego men, cars, stickers, prints of super heroes, everything that your child likes, that he is willing to look at for hours, and that he is even willing to sleep with.

Or even make it in the form of a wrist bracelet; I think kids will also appreciate this option.

Regarding the teaching system, choose the one that you think is more understandable to your child and which you can teach “without stuttering.” Some people make watches like real ones without minutes, others hide the minutes under a leaf so they can “peep.” Someone, on the contrary, makes a double dial, where both hours and minutes are clearly visible, and even the hands move in their own circle, clearly pointing to the number. And someone makes a clock with the task of sticking the corresponding number of minutes on Velcro, and even below you can put in separate numbers what happened (for example, 10:30). Of course, it is more convenient to make such watches with Velcro from felt, although Velcro can also be glued onto cardboard. The main idea!

Or you can improve your regular home clock by sticking minutes in a circle for quick learning.

In a word, what are we still talking about? It's time to get down to business! We have a universal, basic master class coming up that you can take as a basis for your idea.

Step-by-step instructions for making a clock from cardboard

Now we will try together do craft. But first, just a few words about the tools we will use to make, and the children’s possible help.

A few important points:

  • We have to cut out blanks from paper, and for this we will need sharp scissors. If you have scissors with rounded edges, then this part of the work can be entrusted to the baby. Otherwise, it’s better, or rather safer, to do it yourself.
  • To fasten the arrows on the structure, we again need a sharp object: either nail scissors with sharp edges, or a nail. Only 3 holes. But safety is more important. If the baby asks, of course, you can entrust the work, but only with your safety net.
  • Decide how strong the structure you plan to make. Perhaps one sheet of cardboard will not be enough. Then use a base. A layer of thick packaging cardboard, or a few additional regular balls, will serve as the base.
  • The last thing is how you will draw, or rather, with what. If you use a compass, then you already have the middle marked, and that’s good. But it is dangerous because of the sharp edge. You can draw it by tracing a plate, cup or bowl around the counter. In this case, we determine the middle using two perpendicular lines. Or, even simpler, bend one of the circles (preferably not the very first one, in order to maintain its attractive appearance) in half twice. The bend point is the middle.

Now we are completely ready! Forward!

Wall clocks are a very practical interior detail. In the kitchen, they make it possible to keep track of time without being distracted from cooking or turning on the phone for this (especially since your hands may be covered in flour, oil or something else while cooking). Located in the room, they allow you to quickly find out the time without reaching into your pocket for your mobile phone. Eco-style lovers can make a watch out of wood with their own hands.

What are the benefits of wooden watches?

Wood is a special material, objects made from it have a number of advantages:

  1. Naturalness.
  2. Low cost(provided that the product is made by hand, because processing by a craftsman is often quite expensive, especially if it is an individual order).
  3. Originality. Many people like to look at interior items made of natural wood, but not everyone decides to keep such things in their home.

A watch made from juniper or other healing wood will disinfect the air. To do this, they should not be varnished. The look will be more natural if you carefully rub the sandpaper over the surface.

If you make a clock from a cut tree with your own hands, you can leave a layer of bark. This will give the product a more natural look.

How to choose a tree

The first step is to decide on the type. Will it be linden, soft enough and easy to process, hard oak or healing juniper? You can choose what is easier to get or buy, and then cover it with stain to suit the desired look.

After choosing the type, you should find a suitable material. There are several possible options in this matter:

  1. You can purchase ready-made sawn timber at a sawmill, in souvenir or specialized stores, or via the Internet.
  2. Make it yourself if you have a suitable stump or log, a chainsaw and the ability to use it.
  3. Wait until the annual sanitary inspections are carried out and ask the workers to cut off the required piece. Or take a whole block of wood from them and continue to act in accordance with paragraph 2.

How to prepare material

Before making a wooden clock with your own hands, you should spend time preparing for work. Once the material is found, it should be left in a dry place for two weeks to dry. This is not necessary if the cut was purchased in a store, but even wood purchased at a sawmill can be damp. If the material was taken from freshly cut trees, the moisture level in it is many times higher than permissible. Such a workpiece, not previously dried, should not be used.

If you neglect to dry the wood, cracks may form in the finished watch. In the worst case, the saw will split, and all the work done will be ruined, and you will have to start all over again.

Materials and tools

There is nothing difficult in making a wooden watch with your own hands if you have high-quality raw materials and tools. What you need to prepare before you start:

  1. Dry sleep.
  2. Watch mechanism (you can disassemble old ones or buy cheap ones).
  3. Paint or a burning device (if you plan to burn the numbers rather than paint them).
  4. Scissors.
  5. Electrical tape or paper
  6. Hot glue gun.
  7. Fine-grit sandpaper or sander.
  8. Hammer and chisel.

You can avoid an unpleasant situation when, during the work process, it suddenly turns out that something is missing, if you make a list of what you need in advance and check it.

How to make a clock out of wood with your own hands

In order not to complicate your life by sanding the cut or preparing the dial after installing the mechanism, it is important to follow the correct sequence of actions:

  1. Drill a hole for the arrows in the center of the cut.
  2. Use a chisel and hammer to make a recess for the mechanism with reverse side.
  3. Sand the dial and recess with sandpaper or a sander.
  4. Install the mechanism, attach it with electrical tape and secure the box in which it is located using a heat gun.
  5. Draw or burn numbers on the dial.
  6. Set arrows.
  7. Install the mount on the reverse side so that the clock can be hung on the wall.

Without spending too much time and effort, you can make a clock out of wood with your own hands. An item made by hand in a single copy looks much more interesting than a mass-produced product.

Variety of wooden clocks

A watch made from sawn wood is one of the simplest options. By analogy with them, it can be made not from a transverse, but from a longitudinal die. The product will turn out to be of irregular shape, so it is important to select the material so that the longitudinal section has a beautiful shape.

There are many options on how to make a beautiful wooden clock. Wall-mounted, made with your own hands, made for yourself or as a gift, they will delight their owners for a long time.

Possible design options for wooden clocks:

  1. Cut out furniture board the basis of the desired shape.
  2. Make non-standard symbols for numbers. For example, in the form of coins or wooden balls. You can do without numbers and their designations completely
  3. Take a lot of thin dies or wooden rulers, fasten them so that you get a volumetric circle with a thickness equal to the short side of the dies. You will get an original dial.
  4. You can use birch bark, stretched in a frame of beautiful branches cleared of bark, as a dial.

Craftsmen can make more complex wooden watches with their own hands.

Drawings of the mechanism can be found on the Internet on specialized resources. In order to create such models, you must have certain experience and skills. The simpler options described above can be done by anyone with the desire and a little patience.

Glue the image

6. Now you need to use your imagination and make sure that the drawing fits organically into the surface. Paints of appropriate tones and a sponge will help here. With their help a smooth transition is created from the pattern to the surface of the dial. It is important to be extremely careful; if you cope with this task, then you are a great master.

Making a smooth transition

7. At this stage the product needs to be aged , to do this, apply a two-component cracking agent to the surface with a dry brush (you can buy it at a store that sells craft supplies).

Apply a layer of craquelure

8. After the craquelure dries, cracks will appear on the product, which will give it elegance. The workpiece is varnished as a protective layer.

Varnish

At the end, all that remains is to install the arrows, the mechanism and glue the numbers (the latter can be drawn according to the template). Now the clock has a completed look; it can be used as decor for the kitchen, bedroom, or living room.
