Projects of houses and cottages in the chalet style. Chalet-style houses (80 photos): projects and ideas |
As mentioned above, the word chalet meant lonely huts in the mountains; they usually served as shelter for shepherds or lumberjacks. In such houses they sheltered from snow and rain, and cooked food right there - in a stone hearth, the prototype of a modern fireplace. There was no specific owner of the house, so the furnishings were extremely simple and uncomplicated. A style was formed - simple, using natural materials. The first floor was made of stones, sometimes whitewashed with lime for beauty. The second floor was assembled from logs, which were prepared right there from nearby trees. They made a simple gable, low-set roof to protect from cold mountain winds and snow avalanches. The chalet style became widely known as Alpine ski resorts developed. It was usually wealthy people who skied, and many people liked this style. Over the long, centuries-old history, a lot has changed, but simplicity and natural materials remain unchanged - everything that made chalet house designs so popular. Advantages of chalet style housesThe advantage is that the combination of stone and wood creates this characteristic and recognizable appearance. The first floor in chalet house projects is built of stone, mainly used building blocks or brick. The second floor is made of wood, using timber, profiled timber, double timber, and rounded logs. The main advantage is the combination of an enlarged base and a low, spreading roof. The projects are becoming more comfortable and larger than the first single chalets in the French Alps. However, you can be sure that when ordering the design of a chalet house from our company, you will receive all the benefits of this technology! Features in designWhen designing chalet houses, it is necessary to take into account their features:
Chalet layoutsIn our company, the layout of chalet houses depends on the wishes of the customer and the advice of an experienced architect. There are standard options for room layouts, the basic principles are as follows:
We carry out all layouts individually; we often order one-story chalet projects, sometimes they ask to include a garage or a bathhouse with a sauna on the ground floor. Decoration and interior in chalet styleDuring the construction and exterior decoration of chalets, natural stone and wood in the form of timber or logs are usually used. The walls of the first floor, both inside and outside, are most often plastered in light shades, for example simply white. Wooden surfaces usually painted dark brown for the effect of old, darkened wood. In interior decoration, the floor covering is artificially aged floorboard, either painted with a patina effect, or varnished. To decorate the ceilings in the interior, leave ceiling beams painted in a dark color in contrast with the light ceiling, which can be stretched. By the way, it will look very stylish, but quite natural. Chalet in RussiaChalet house designs are well suited to the Russian climate thanks to their strong construction; autumn dampness and winter frosts are not a problem for them! These are no longer traditional alpine houses, but the main recognizable features have remained unchanged due to their characteristic features. The chalet style has been tested by time and the harsh mountain climate, so it is perfect for designing houses in Russia. An example of comfort and simplicity, a combination of reliability and coziness, it is ideal for the home. Our design organization successfully designs chalet-style houses and offers to familiarize yourself with ready-made projects, or make it custom. The concept of “chalet” was born in the mountainous regions of Switzerland, where shepherds built simple warm huts with strongly protruding roof edges for wintering. Such an elongated roof ensured natural removal of snow, protecting buildings from the formation of large icicles. Frost-resistant durable wood was used as the main material, providing reliable protection from cold and wind. The main attention was paid to the strength of the foundation, which was built using rubble stones or granite. Therefore, such a down-to-earth structure with a strong foundation resisted landslides and rockfalls well. Chalet style cottage project S-296Over time, the term “chalet” began to refer to all small rural houses in the mountainous regions of Europe, which led to the formation of an autonomous style in modern architecture. With the development of eco-tourism, “chalets” have turned from modest houses located among picturesque landscapes into elite cottages, equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay. As for low-rise construction, this style is especially in demand today in the suburban sector in areas with difficult climatic conditions. How can you identify a chalet style house?
A classic chalet-style cottage has two floors under a reinforced gable roof with a mandatory fireplace on the ground floor. However, the tourism business, in pursuit of profit, has already mastered the construction of three and even four-story chalets, which only retained large cornice overhangs from their “ancestors.” Modern projects Chalet-style houses are presented with an inspiring selection of architectural and interior solutions, each of which can become the basis for a successful business or personal everyday comfort. The interiors of such buildings are usually made in the style of “rustic primitivism” or “country”, which allows you to create harmony between the internal and external stylistic concepts of the house. Natural wood, solid boards, “rough” solid doors and windows are actively used as the main materials for finishing such premises. The abundance of false beams, local areas with unplastered brickwork, and massive furniture made of aged wood enhances the impression of being in a mountain house. In general, chalet-style houses can easily be called “veterans” of suburban construction, which confidently dominate the tourist segment. Today I want to bring to the attention of developers 16 beautiful projects Chalet style houses. Of course, everything is subjective, and this is just my design opinion, but you can take note of the ideas of houses in order to build on something in the future when designing your cottage. All pictures and plans can be enlarged by clicking on them. House project Chalet No. 1The first project is a Chalet-style house on two levels with overall dimensions of 10.5 by 10.5 meters. That's why I combined the two variations and named the project that way. What I love about chalets is the huge windows that let in a lot of light during the winter months. A wonderful three-bedroom project suitable for a family who loves open space and a unique, comfortable design. Projects from the Fasad Exp teamThe first house has an area of 140 square meters, very comfortable, nice and practical. A very good project, nothing to add here. Video - Chalet in Bavarian style
In conclusion, I suggest you watch the video from personal experience for the construction of a chalet in the Bavarian style. Maybe this example will inspire you. The architectural style of the chalet combines reliability, comfort and special charm, which explains its enormous popularity. For many, such buildings are a model of simplicity and comfort, an ideal place for a family hearth. Massive, strong, high-quality structures reliably protect from autumn dampness and winter frosts, and are simply ideal for the Russian climate. Modern designs of chalet-style houses differ markedly from traditional Swiss houses, but the main, most characteristic features remain unchanged. This style is so characteristic features that it is very difficult to confuse it with any other. Even despite the modern interpretation and the presence of several directions with ethnic motives different countries, the chalet houses are still recognizable and retain their unique flavor. House architectureChalet houses are of a combined type, in which stone and natural wood are optimally combined. Classic housing is a two-story house, where the first floor is entirely made of stone and the second is wooden. As a rule, utility rooms are located below: kitchen and dining room, hallway, garage, and in large houses - laundry and boiler rooms. There is often also a living room there. The upper floor is intended for living rooms, a study, and bathrooms. Such buildings are characterized by large sizes, different levels due to mountainous landscapes, and the presence of wide encircling terraces. The balconies are also quite spacious, supported by wooden or brick columns. Any extensions or superstructures are not typical for such a building; the project initially calculates the number and location of all rooms that may be needed. The roofs of houses are usually gable, very flat, with canopies and wide overhangs that can extend beyond the perimeter of the walls by 2 meters. This provides excellent protection for walls and foundations from precipitation. The roofs are massive and reinforced rafter system, since they have to withstand high snow loads. Most houses have high, powerful foundations and plinths - reliable protection from spring floods. Doors and windowsChalet houses very often have two entrances - the front and the side, especially if the building is large, there is a garage and other utility rooms where a separate entrance is needed. The doors are simple rectangular in shape, wooden, most often solid. It is not customary to highlight the front entrance with decor or color, although sometimes it is made in the form of an arch and lined with decorative stone. There should be a lot of windows, large in size (panoramic ones are welcome), with a small number of lintels. Attic windows often have a triangular or trapezoidal shape, repeating the lines of the roof, all others are square and rectangular. Simple platbands and lattice shutters can be used as decoration. Materials for construction and finishingFor a classic chalet, only natural materials should be used - wild stone and logs, but such construction will be very expensive. For this reason, almost all projects widely use concrete, foam block, brick, as well as laminated timber and frame structures for the construction of upper floors. Such materials can reduce construction time and reduce financial costs. To increase energy efficiency, insulation materials are used: mineral wool, EPS and other materials. When finishing basements and lower floors, preference is given to artificial stone, plaster and basement siding, the upper floors are covered with clapboard. Natural tiles are traditionally used for roofing, as well as more affordable options - flexible tiles, ondulin, composite materials. Decor and colorsIt is not customary for chalet-style houses to be richly decorated, so stucco, mosaics, stained glass, patterns and ornaments on the walls are not used for decoration. Instead decorative functions Carved platbands and cornices, figured railings, consoles, stone-lined pillars at the porch, corners and chimneys are performed. Bright colors and too contrasting combinations are also unacceptable: the color scheme includes all shades of gray and brown, white, terracotta, sand. As a rule, the lower floor is decorated in light colors, the upper floor in dark colors. Chalet style facade decorationTo build a real chalet, considerable funds are needed, a significant percentage of which will be spent on developing the project. It is impossible to carry out calculations independently without special knowledge, and the construction process requires certain skills. But it is much easier to give an existing home the characteristic look of a shepherd’s cottage, and all the work can be done on your own. Despite the standard combination - stone bottom, wooden top, there are a lot of finishing options. The first floor and basement can be covered with basement siding, the walls can be lined with decorative stone tiles, or, for example, the main area can be plastered and painted white, and the corners and basement can be highlighted with artificial stone. To finish the second floor you can use vinyl siding, planken, lining, WPC, and fastening does not have to be done only horizontally. Vertical wood paneling also looks great and gives the house a more expressive and colorful look. When choosing a finishing method, consider not only the cost of materials and appearance, but also the complexity of installation if you are going to do all the work yourself. For example, consider the cladding of the lower floor with stone plaster. Prices for various types of facing stoneCladding of the lower floorStone veneer cladding is a fairly popular finishing option. Plastushka (die) is called rolled fragments of sandstone or other rock of small thickness. These plates have uneven edges, smooth, layered or rough surfaces and uneven colors of various shades. High-quality laying of tiles is visually no different from natural stone masonry and creates the impression of massiveness and strength of the walls. Preparing the wallsThis facing material is quite heavy, so it cannot be mounted on weak foundation. In order to properly prepare the walls for finishing, you first need to dismantle the basement flashing, remove gutters, branches, and climbing plants. After this, dirt is removed, areas overgrown with moss are cleaned, and also check how firmly the plaster holds. If peeling, swelling is detected, or a dull sound is heard when tapped with a hammer, this means that the old coating is no longer suitable and everything needs to be removed to a solid base. Cracks in the walls are thoroughly cleaned and sealed with cement mortar, the same is done with deep recesses, chips, and through cracks. IN brickwork Be sure to carefully inspect the seams and seal the voids with mortar. It is not necessary to eliminate minor irregularities and roughness: when facing, a thick layer of adhesive solution will completely hide these imperfections. But stains from oils, bitumen and tarry substances should be completely removed, otherwise the solution will not stick to the base, and very soon the lining will disappear. Any solvent, gasoline, turpentine is suitable for cleaning. After the stain disappears, the wall area should be washed with soapy water and rinsed clean. If the walls made of bricks or blocks are in good condition, without cracks or crumbling, it is enough to treat them with a grinder with an abrasive attachment to remove frozen mortar deposits and possible irregularities. After this, sweep away the dust and cover the surface with a primer. The best primer here is “Betonokontakt”, which will ensure the most reliable adhesion of the finishing layer to the base. The primer can be applied with a roller or brush, the main thing is that there are no missing areas, especially along the seams. Tools and materialsDuring the cladding process you will need:
It must have increased adhesion to hold the stone plates, so when choosing, carefully study the information on the packaging. Cement-based mixtures are best suited - Ceresit CM 17, Osnovit Maxiplix T-16, LITOFLEX K80. The plastic differs in thickness and color. There are options gray, gray-yellow, all shades of brown, with red and purple tints and multi-colored splashes. Thickness varies from 10 to 100 mm. Gray-brown and gray stone is perfect for chalet-style decoration, as it closely resembles the color of the rocks of the Swiss Alps. You can take any thickness, but it is more convenient to work with a thin sheet - about 15-20 mm.
Prices for popular drill modelsStone laying technologySome craftsmen attach the plastic board directly to the wall, but for greater reliability it is recommended to use reinforcing mesh. It is fixed to the base using dowels with wide heads - at least 10 fasteners are required per m2. The mesh should be well stretched and fit tightly to the surface; adjacent sheets should be overlapped by 5-7 cm. Next, prepare a thick cement mortar (1 part cement to 4 parts sand) and apply it to the mesh with a trowel. The thickness of the layer is approximately 10-15 mm, the solution is thoroughly rubbed over the mesh so that each cell is filled. If voids remain, the dies will begin to lag behind the wall and the cladding will have to be repaired. When the mesh is hidden in the thickness of the mortar and the mixture begins to set slightly, take a notched trowel and form a relief on the surface that will provide better adhesion of the stone to the wall. After the solution has dried, the walls are primed again. Step 1. laid out on a flat, dry surface, one by one joining them together. They should fit as tightly as possible so that there are no large gaps. If necessary, any element can be trimmed with a grinder if some protrusion prevents you from placing the stone in place. Stones for joining internal corners are filed in the same way
Step 2. Mix the adhesive solution according to the manufacturer's instructions. Calculate the volume of the mixture to be approximately 2-2.5 m2, since installation takes time, and the solution sets quickly. The prepared mass should stand for about 5 minutes, then mix it well again. Step 3. The dies are laid from bottom to top. Before applying the solution, it is recommended to moisten the back side of the stone with water and leave for 30-40 seconds so that the liquid is absorbed into the porous structure. Next, the mortar is applied with a trowel, the stone is pressed against the wall and beaten with a mallet so that it takes the desired position. The solution should protrude slightly on the sides. Press down on the stone so that the glue comes out. Remove excess with a spatula We press the stone, forming a neat angle Step 4. Take the second fragment, moisten it, apply the solution and carefully join the stone with the previous one. Try to press the stones so that the glue fills the gaps between them, but does not stain the front side. If this does happen, the solution must be wiped off immediately with a damp cloth, because after drying it is very difficult to remove traces of it. Step 5. The remaining dies are attached, repeating the layout exactly. Having completed the first section, the joints are checked, and any voids found are filled with mortar. Next, the stones are laid out again on the ground, the mortar is mixed again and the next area is tiled. When the solution dries, the walls are treated with a water repellent. This composition improves the external characteristics of the stone, protects the seams from moisture penetration and significantly increases the service life of the coating. Starting construction country house on their site, everyone already has an idea of the final result. Some people want to see a traditional Russian hut, for some ultra-modern designs are relevant, and some dream of an exotic Chinese pagoda. However, many people prefer cozy and comfortable chalet-style houses. A chalet-style country house attracts many for several understandable reasons:
Translating the name “chalet” we get “shepherd’s hut”. The first buildings of this type were typical of the province of Savoy. It was here that shepherds settled on the alpine slopes, building their cozy small houses from available materials in the form of wood and stones. The main purpose of these houses was to shelter from bad weather and wild animals. In Russia, many people fell in love with the chalet style thanks to the development of alpine skiing. It is difficult to build a chalet into a special type of architecture, but this style has nevertheless found its niche in the construction of country apartments. Distinctive stylistic featuresChalet style, this is a completely eco-friendly building. Among all other types of buildings of this type, it is distinguished by the following features: Unusual looking roofThe roof is the most recognizable feature of the chalet style. The roof is chosen to be massive and sloping, the projections are left large. The shape of the roof is determined by the natural conditions in which the first chalet houses were built.
Terraces and spacious balconiesOpen terraces and balconies are also built in order to merge as much as possible with surrounding nature. The balconies are located under an overhanging roof, which protects them from precipitation. Use only natural building materials. Strong foundation base and the ground floor are built of stone, and the attic and second level are made of wood. Stone, due to its strength, serves as a solid foundation, and wood perfectly holds in winter period warm, but in sultry heat - cool. Number of floors of the buildingThe buildings have never been tall chalets. As a rule, the first basement is made of stone, the second - wooden. If there is a need to expand the area of the house, this was done through horizontal extensions. In modern buildings there is also an attic floor. Chalet house designIn order for a country house to truly correspond to the chosen style direction, chalet-style house projects are being developed. The first place to start is the roof, which is a style-forming element. Main characteristics chalet roofing is its angle of inclination, which should be very large. With such a slope there is no need for a drain, since water and snow will roll off on their own.
When choosing the optimal roofing angle, the amount of precipitation in a particular climate zone should be taken into account. When the angle is 45 degrees, then such a foundation is not strong and you will have to build a reinforced rafter system. Therefore, it is advisable to make a sharper angle at which the snow will roll off on its own. When choosing a roof covering, preference can be given to corrugated sheeting, which is distinguished by its flexibility and lightness. If you want to follow the style exactly, you should choose shingles - tiles made of oak, spruce or larch. It is also permissible to use ceramic, composite or bitumen tiles. Ondulin is relevant. But what is strictly prohibited is metal tiles. Projects one-story houses They are also considering the construction of balconies and terraces. They, as a rule, are lined up from the south or east so that they can penetrate there sunlight. They are decorated with figured planks or balustrades. The perimeter is sheathed with wooden elements. Now you can work on the first (ground) floor. It is built cold, from strong stone. Then the wall surfaces are plastered and whitewashed. The basement contains a kitchen, guest rooms, a bathroom, a hallway and other utility rooms. The second (warm) floor is built from wood. Here they arrange bedrooms filled with warmth and comfort. The attic includes rooms for accommodating and receiving guests and utility rooms. A balcony area can be located here. It is also made from wood. As for windows, in addition to the fact that they must be large, it is not permissible to use plastic here. It is better to replace it with wood and add beautiful shutters. InteriorLiving roomThe interior of a chalet-style house begins with the arrangement of the living room, because this is the largest room with high ceilings and large windows that cover the entire wall. The main thing here is to use only natural finishing materials without replacing them with analogues. An atmosphere of unprecedented warmth and comfort is created by soft carpets on the floor and luxurious fur coverings, luxurious lamps and elegant large chandeliers. The furniture pieces are massive, made of wood. The upholstered furniture group has natural noble upholstery with wool, leather, velor or linen. The atmosphere is soft and calm.
A hearth and home is a must in a chalet house. The whole family will gather here. They decorate it with stones and stuffed animals around it. Sleeping areaThe main role in the bedroom is given to the bed, which should be made of polished wood, it is massive, with decorations in the form of carvings. Textile inclusions made of cotton and linen will complement the cozy atmosphere. Bright pillows and bedspreads will enliven the design.
Kitchen and dining areaThe kitchen equipment of the chalet is environmentally friendly and uses natural materials. Finishing and kitchen units made of noble wood are colorful stylistic features. All built-in equipment is hidden under wooden facades or cute textile curtains. The finishing of wall surfaces ensures the original appearance of wood. The maximum permissible is to plaster the surfaces or cover them with natural stone elements. The ceiling is plastered in a light shade, and dark-colored beams are erected on it. The floor surfaces remain wooden, only slightly coated with imitation antique varnish. The photo of a chalet-style house exudes unprecedented warmth and comfort, which is why this style is so often chosen for the construction of country apartments.
