These are the basic and standard interpretations of the direct position of each of the 22 cards related to the major cards in Tarot decks. Different types of Tarot may have their own interpretations. Good luck to you, look into the future more often and don't forget to press the buttons and

The presence of a large number of symbols distinguishes Tarot cards from many other methods of fortune telling, where the same meanings presented here simply must be obtained by combining several symbols.

Many tarot readers interpret the meanings of tarot cards based on their overall understanding and the surroundings of each card individually.

You should begin to interpret cards by determining the meaning of each card in the position it occupies in the layout. The meaning of the card is in the “key words” related to it, in the column that most matches the meaning of your question. Once you have found the appropriate keywords, try modifying them so that they correspond to the meaning of the position in which the card is located.

At first, most likely, this will turn out poorly for you: one thing is written about the card, another is written about the position, and everything doesn’t fit together. But don't worry, just move on to the next card. Having examined all the cards in their positions, you will most likely be able to understand in the first layout what which card means for you in a given situation/

There are layouts in which it is better to interpret the cards not by position (first, second, etc.), but in a different order.

Having finished analyzing the individual cards, you need to put them together into an overall picture. Try to formulate for yourself the general conclusion of the entire scenario. If some cards “do not fit together,” you should not try to smooth out these discrepancies. Our lives are full of contradictions, and the same applies to cards. The layout is not embroidery, in which no knots should be visible, but advice to you in your situation. Understand this, and then the “knots” will sooner or later unravel.

The interpretation of tarot cards occurs in two ways: one meaning if the card falls upright, and another if it lands upside down.

Many tarot readers give inverted cards, that is, those that lie upside down, a completely different meaning. There are also those who do not pay attention to this, but simply rearrange the turned over cards “correctly”. Neither one nor the other is a mistake, it’s just that each fortuneteller must decide for himself before the start of the session whether he will take into account the inverted cards or not. You will have to decide this yourself. Whichever option you like, use it. Just remember that the decision must be made every time in advance, before the session, whether you will take into account the inverted cards or not. If you do, it’s better to mix the cards by scattering them on the table or on the floor and “moving” them in circles so that they fold with their heads and feet in different directions.

Each suit also has its own meaning, which is enhanced if many cards of the same suit appear in the layout.

If the layout prevails:

  • The Major Arcana are important life events, changes that are expected and the main directions of fate.
  • The minor arcana is time.
  • Swords are an expression of communication and ideas, anger, resentment and bitterness.
  • Wands is the suit of “labor”, expressing the creative field, work, productive activity, reputation and fame of a person.
  • Pentacles – finance: money matters, material and life stability.
  • Cups are the suit of “feelings”: happiness, love, harmony, fertility, unity.

Now let's move on directly to the interpretation of the cards. For your convenience, the section is divided into the following subsections: general provisions, Major Arcana, Cups, Pentacles, Swords and Wands.

The article will give the meaning of the major arcana of Tarot cards.

There are several tips that will help make the interpretation of layouts on Tarot cards clearer:

  • Tarot cards have two positions - upright and inverted. Based on this, the cards' range of answers is significantly increased.
  • A deck of Tarot cards is divided into two parts: the major arcana and the minor arcana. Elders are cards with an image and a thematic name. Minor cards are similar in type to regular playing cards, but have different suits: wands, swords, cups and pentacles.
  • Just when you start interpreting the cards, make personal notes to adjust the meaning of the cards to suit you.
  • Over time, you can move away from the general meaning of the cards and use only the personal.

Perhaps they will be the key to solving problems.

Video: Major Arcana Tarot

MAIN VALUE: So, before us is the first card of the Thoth Tarot deck, zero, the beginning of the beginning, so to speak. And the beginning of anything usually reflects the basic, fundamental property of the phenomenon or object to which it relates. This case is no exception. And since all the cards in this deck primarily reflect a very vast area of emotional manifestations of human nature, A. Crowley associated our lightest feelings with this card. Lightness, optimism, naivety, gullibility, love, growth, spring mood - these are the main positive characteristics of this card. Its negative characteristics are overestimation of one’s strengths and capabilities, frivolity, and most importantly, irresponsibility. The last meaning is especially worth highlighting, since it is manifested here exceptionally clearly. Be very careful - such frivolity and recklessness can bring you a lot of trouble.

MAIN VALUE: An exceptionally strong and positive card, in all areas. One of the strongest in the deck. On the material plane it means “abundance and all the riches of the Earth.” On the spiritual – great strength and unity with the spirit.

This card is quite often personalized and indicates a very strong, with great energy potential, and wise woman.

MAIN VALUE: Another wonderful female card, however, unlike the “Priestess”, it is never personalized, indicating only the human qualities of both men and women. The card is always positive. Its main meaning is education, various teaching activities, care and support of someone.

Femininity; Love; kindness; caring about someone or something; motherhood; hard work; virtue; conscientious attitude towards one's duties.

MAIN VALUE: A card of luck and especially financial luck. This is really good money (relative to you and your business, of course). And although in the vast majority of cases " Fortune "reflects precisely the financial and material aspect of its meaning, this card can also be directly related to magic, or rather to the theme of what is depicted on it" Wheels of Time ". The latter, in fact, is not only an abstract symbol, but also has a direct relation to energetic reality, being its most important and very significant aspect. In my practice, there were cases when this card reflected precisely this shade of its meaning (see "Kalachaka- Tantra, however...")

"Fortune " is always a very good and positive card in relation to all topics of fortune telling.

11 Lust (Lust)

MAIN VALUE: Map " Lust “is one of the three major arcana (besides the “Devil” and the “Sun”), my interpretation of which is almost completely opposite to the interpretations of A. Crowley and G. Ziegler. Let’s leave this on the conscience of the above-mentioned masters and move on to my own, based on many years of practice, experience.

This card is the toughest emotional card in the deck, very similar in meaning to the Sun card. In the original it is called "Lust", which means "lust", but there is not so much lust in its meaning. Rather, it indicates a huge release of energy, and in most cases this release is completely uncontrollable. The card is especially dangerous" Lust "for women. She indicates that in his violence a person (especially a woman) is likely to lose or has already lost control, and what happens next depends on the amount of energy and temperament... You can break enough dishes)), so be careful. For people with low energy levels (especially for men), the card may well be positive and signify energy and passion.

12 Hanged Man

MAIN VALUE: This is a card of lack of success. She is strongly negative regarding all topics of fortune telling. It reflects that we have not succeeded, are not succeeding, or will not succeed. This map is very difficult to overcome. It is worth trying to go through it in the future only in a situation where there is no alternative to our choice (see the “Choice” layout) or in the case when the next card in the development of the situation is really positive, and we really realize and understand all the difficulties that we have to clearly see ways to overcome them.

13 Death

MAIN VALUE: A card signifying the death of someone or something. It could be a person, an animal, a relationship, a business, etc. And although you can think about the cleansing consequences of ending something, this card rarely comes up with a positive meaning (unlike, for example, the Tower card). Also map " Death " can mean our confrontation with a person, a very unpleasant conversation with him, strong pressure on us from his side, his extreme disagreement with what we offer him or ask him.

14 Art

MAIN VALUE: The androgynous figure depicted on this card reflects the harmonious synthesis of two or more people, things, directions, methods (actions and expressions), types (businesses), approaches, etc. that are different in quality. It very often indicates a harmonious union-unity between a man and a woman. Map " Art " is always positive in relation to all topics of tarot reading.

15 Devil

MAIN VALUE: Map " Devil “is one of the three Major Arcana (except for “Lust” and “Sun”), my interpretation of which almost completely contradicts the interpretations of A. Crowley and G. Ziegler. Let’s leave this fact on the conscience of the above-mentioned masters and continue, based on my many years of practical experience.

To begin with, I will say that this card is almost always very negative for all topics of Tarot fortune telling. Its only meanings that may not have negative consequences for us are seduction and lust. The main meaning of the card " Devil " is a reflection of our "I" in its worst manifestations. These are manifestations of our egoistic nature such as envy, hatred, greed, deception, sexual incontinence, etc. Be careful with this card: it is extremely dangerous for us to encounter such "diabolical " manifestations of our “I” both in ourselves and in the people around us. An extremely negative card.

16 Tower

MAIN VALUE: "Complete destruction of the old, giving way to the new."This expression contains the main meaning of this card. This destruction can be total and affect you on a very deep level. In this sense, the card " Tower “is completely identical in its meaning to the “Death” card, and the destruction of something reflected by both of them can lead to both positive and negative consequences. I have come across many times that this is the destruction of some of our old or negative views, ideas or relationships that prevent us from being free, happy and effective. However, this is not always the case. Often what is dear to us, what we value, what we have built or are trying to do collapses. So this card is still rather negative, then yes, most often indicates an undesirable turn of events. A very tough card, be very careful with it.

17 Star

MAIN VALUE: "Star "is one of the most positive cards of the deck. Its meaning is in many ways similar to the card "Jester". And although, unlike the "Jester", there is no irresponsibility in the qualities it reflects, the excessive lightness of the phenomena to which it indicates does not always contribute to the actual materialization expected. This is a card of great mood, hope and happiness, spiritual fulfillment and success." Star " is always positive, but don’t expect too much from it. Of course, a great mood and happiness can be the result of success in material affairs and the real achievement of your goals, but in the case of this card it’s worth looking a little further into the future (see layout

All the secrets destined for us by fate, one way or another, become the most desirable, and everyone would give a lot to unravel them. Why do we need this? To protect yourself from the upcoming disaster and change what is destined, or to satisfy your boundless curiosity? Everyone answers this question differently.

Nowadays, the availability of services for “looking into the future” is growing more and more every day. Moreover, anyone can try their hand at this interesting field. In most cases, people who want to know their destiny are interested in Tarot cards, which can not only prophesy, but also tell about a person’s inner world, his feelings and emotions. We will devote our article to Tarot cards, namely their senior meanings. So let's get started.

Briefly about Tarot cards

There is no exact information about the origin of these mystical images. It is only known that Tarot cards are a kind of “transmitter” of knowledge from the past in the form of occult, astrological and mystical symbols. Tarot images hide the cultures of many peoples; they are the embodiment of the power of their knowledge and teachings.

So, the deck consists of 78 cards and is divided into the minor and major arcana. Arcana are certain images that convey information about the past, present and future. Minor - has 56 cards, which are divided into four “suits”:

  • Wands;
  • Denarii (Pentacles);
  • Cups;
  • Swords.

Each suit contains 14 cards that have different characteristics. Human feelings and emotions, character and qualities, situations and problems - all this is subject to the minor arcana.

The major arcana consists of 22 cards. They are considered the most important in fortune telling. Symbolizing future and past key events, major changes and important life situations, they carry an exclusively philosophical meaning. That is why the major arcana of the Tarot attract special attention due to their enormous significance. Let’s look further into what these mysterious symbols carry.

0: Jester

Jester (Fool) means a difficult situation that has arisen precisely because you did not deign to take all the initiative into your own hands. At this stage, you should accept everything as it is and not try to fix the current situation. Trust fate, only in this case it will be able to bring everything to its logical conclusion. And your past experience will definitely be useful to you in the future.

An inverted card speaks of a waste of time, carelessness and thoughtlessness in actions.

1: Mage

A magician means a new stage in a person’s life. If you get this lasso, it means that you are ready to develop yourself and move in the right direction. Another suggests that an influential person may soon appear in your life. Don’t blindly trust him, take the initiative, and go towards your goal on your own, because you have much more potential than you think.

Reversed meaning

Neglect and lack of self-confidence and strength, inability and unwillingness to use one’s potential.

3: High Priestess

It means femininity, wisdom, legibility, intuition, endless care and the ability to keep a home. If you get such a lasso, it means that you are not trying to conquer the world, you just want to learn and observe it. Under no circumstances should you try to use all of the above qualities to achieve your goals; this will not lead to anything good.

Reversed meaning
