Aphids on cucumbers. Aphids on cucumbers from the bottom of leaves: how to fight How to spray cucumbers against aphids

Aphids begin to attack cucumbers in July. Small translucent bugs with green wings and abdomens multiply quickly, sucking juices from stems and flowers. The leaves of the garden crop turn yellow and curl, droop, and the ovary either does not appear or becomes sluggish and diseased. Aphids can destroy cucumbers in just a week, so you need to fight insects using traditional methods, and if that doesn’t work, use chemicals.

Water from pests

Bugs are washed off from the stems and root system with a damp sponge or soft cloth. Wet the cloth in clean water or soapy water and carefully wipe the bushes, being careful not to damage the tender shoots.

Cucumbers that have a lot of ovary and few flowers are bathed daily. Plants are washed in the morning before dawn so that the root system has time to absorb water and the tops of the bushes dry. The jet is directed to the inside of the leaves and stems. Water washes away aphids and reduces the number of pests.

Bathing and wiping will help if there were not too many insects and they did not have time to damage the cucumbers. Colonies of bugs that are located on the roots and stems are crushed with cotton swabs or a soft cloth.

Aphids get along well with red and black ants. These insects protect pests and receive food in return. Anthills located next to cucumber beds must be destroyed. Fill with hot water or poison. It is advised to attract ladybugs that feed on aphids.

Cucumbers on which insects have settled are sprayed with a solution: mix a liter of distilled water and 2 tablespoons of liquid antibacterial soap. The component makes the leaves slippery and tasteless. Pests cannot drink the juice and leave the garden bed or die.

Plants are treated early in the morning or after sunset. Wash off the remaining solution the next day.

Folk remedies

Cucumbers on which the ovary has appeared are not recommended to be sprayed with insecticides. The chemical is absorbed into the root system and fruits, so the crop will have to be thrown away. Instead of synthetic substances, natural recipes are used that repel and destroy aphids.

Burning options

Green bugs do not like hot peppers, so you need to finely chop 2-3 pods and add them to a bucket of water. Place the container with the solution in a warm place, you can leave it in the sun. A day later, strain and process the cucumbers after sunset. If there are a lot of pests, add 150 g of wood ash, 60 ml of liquid or 40 g of laundry soap and 2-3 drops of iodine to the preparation. The concentrated mixture is sprayed onto the upper leaves and stems. The composition must not get on the root system.

If there is no chili or hot pepper in the house, it is replaced with black or red one from the store. But then you need to increase the serving size by 2-3 times. Be sure to add 50–60 g of tobacco from cigarettes or homemade shag to the solution.

Aphids cannot tolerate the smell of garlic. Finely chop 500 g of peeled stock. Fill a three-liter jar with clean water and pour garlic into it. Stir, cover the infusion with a lid, set aside for 5 days. Treat bushes where aphids live and healthy cucumbers with the strained liquid.

Green bugs will be destroyed by mustard powder. Infuse 10 g of the product in 1 liter of water for two days. Add 800 ml of distilled liquid to the prepared solution and spray the bushes with a spray bottle. You can add 50–70 g of laundry soap shavings so that the aphids disappear in 3–4 days and do not appear for a long time.

Plants from pests
Cucumbers on which green bugs have settled are sprayed with celandine infusion. You will need 300 g of dry or 100–150 g of fresh herb. Leaves, stems and even roots will come in handy. Finely chop the plant, put it in a ten-liter bucket and fill it with water. Cover with a lid and leave the container in the sun. Strain after 2 days, pour into a spray bottle.

Celandine produces poisonous juice, so you need to wear rubber gloves when crushing the plant. The knife and bucket in which the solution was rinsed thoroughly with soapy water and then with regular tap water.

While the celandine is infused, the beds are sprayed with dandelion product. Combine 400 g of chopped roots and 600 g of chopped leaves with 10 liters of liquid. Set aside for 3 hours, then process the cucumbers. You can soak the dandelions at noon so that the solution to kill aphids is ready in the evening.

Yarrow also helps get rid of insects. You will need 900 g of fresh grass and 2 liters of boiling water. Combine the ingredients in a glass jar, wrap the container with a warm towel, and cover with a lid. Leave for 60 minutes. The strained infusion is diluted with water to make a full ten-liter bucket of aphid repellent. For 1 sq. m. of cucumbers are sprayed with 1 liter of solution.

Infusions for killing aphids are prepared from field plants:

  • sage;
  • nettle;
  • chamomile;
  • wormwood;
  • lavender.

Onion or garlic arrows are also used. You can add 5 drops of iodine or brilliant green, 2-3 crystals of potassium permanganate to the herbal infusion to get a light pink liquid. The beds are treated with infusions 1–2 times a day until the aphids disappear. Healthy cucumbers are sprayed weekly with natural compounds to prevent insects from appearing again.

Tobacco and horseradish
If there are a lot of pests, you will need 400 g of shag or tobacco. Pour the workpiece into a bucket and fill it with hot water. Leave for 2 days, covering the container with a lid. Before spraying, add 80–100 g of laundry or tar soap to the solution.

Powder made from bitter or black pepper and tobacco will destroy aphids. The components are mixed, crushed and sprinkled on the beds. The procedure is carried out in the evening; after treatment, the cucumbers are not watered for 2-3 days for the powder to take effect. The fruits will not have an unpleasant odor or bitter taste.

Cucumber leaves are sprayed or wiped with horseradish tincture:

  1. Wash and finely chop 7–8 roots of the plant.
  2. Place in a saucepan or jar and add 3 liters of warm water.
  3. After 3 hours, drain the resulting infusion.
  4. Do not throw away the cake, but combine it with a new portion of distilled liquid. Leave the jar for 3 hours.
  5. Mix the first concentrated infusion with the second.
  6. Before use, dilute the product with water: a glass of horseradish preparation for 5 liters of clean liquid.

Other methods
An infusion made from potato or tomato tops will get rid of aphids. Side shoots or weak branches are cut off from young bushes. Soak 1.5–3 kg of greens in a bucket of cold water and leave covered for 24 hours.

Aphids will disappear if you spray the beds with a solution of wood ash. Pour 3 tablespoons of powder into a bucket, add 100 g of crushed laundry soap. Stir the water until the components are completely dissolved.

You can add essential oils of peppermint or tea tree to tinctures and decoctions. Strong odors repel green bugs and protect cucumbers.

Synthetic drugs

If the aphids have not retreated after using folk remedies, the beds are sprayed with chemicals. We recommend gentle options:

  • Peretrum;
  • Inta-Vir;
  • Iskra Bio;
  • Fitoverm;
  • Aktar;
  • Nitroammofoski.

Fruits are collected from the bushes and then treated with drugs.

Aphids are a dangerous and invisible enemy that can destroy an entire crop in a matter of days. You need to fight green bugs immediately after they appear. Insects are washed off, crushed and poisoned using natural means. And bushes densely covered with aphids are cut off and thrown away, because it is better to lose a few specimens than the entire garden bed.

Video: how to deal with aphids

Gardeners who dream of a large harvest of delicious cucumbers must think about how to protect their plantings from various pests. Most often, vegetables are attacked by aphids. Already in the middle of summer, pests settle in the beds and in order not to lose the harvest, it is necessary not only to promptly intervene during the process, but also to carry out preventive measures. It is recommended to combat this pest with both folk remedies and chemicals.

What kind of pest is this?

The melon aphid attacks all parts of cucumbers: leaves, shoots, stems, and fruits, the juice of which it feeds on. It looks like a small insect with thin legs. Its size barely goes beyond 1-2 millimeters. The black or dark green adult is distinguished by its lack of wings. Sometimes it is white, almost transparent. Pests usually live in colonies, which stand out brightly against the background of green cucumbers with their black color.

Therefore, if some strange dark dots become visible from the bottom of the leaves, this indicates that it is worth checking the plant for aphids. As soon as the surrounding temperature rises above 6 degrees Celsius, the insects begin their breeding season.

In addition to the fact that aphids weaken the fruits of plants, depriving them of liquid, they also poison them with the poison they secrete. In addition, the pest is capable of transmitting common infections. You can determine the occurrence of aphids in the beds by the condition of the cucumber leaves - they begin to curl, turn yellow and become covered with spots. In addition, flowers and ovaries fall off. In general, aphids begin to settle on seedlings, and young shoots with a couple of leaves will not even be able to resist them, so it is important to take measures immediately.

Processing agents

Whatever method of insect control is chosen, you should remember that the procedure must be carried out according to the instructions, and be prepared that one treatment may not be enough. In addition, it would be good to carry out all spraying before the scorching sun appears, because the plant must dry out. Otherwise, the cucumbers will turn yellow, dry out and be burned.

Folk

Gardeners of the “old school” usually prefer to fight aphids on cucumbers by using folk remedies. Since the use of chemicals during fruiting is prohibited, but the appearance of aphids is quite possible, “grandmother’s recipes” come to the rescue. Conveniently, all the ingredients are extremely accessible and can be found either in your own garden or at home.

Herbal solutions are especially popular. For example, you can try treating the plantings with a solution of celandine. The recipe is simple: 400 grams of the plant are infused in a liter of water for two days. After this, the broth must be boiled for about half an hour. You can also use dried yarrow. The herb is left in a water bath for 40 minutes in 2 liters of water, and then infused for a couple of days in a dark room. If you spray cucumbers with dandelion infusion several times, you will be able to get rid of aphids. The shoots and roots are filled with water, after which they are infused for 24 hours and then filtered. The plant will need to be sprayed four times, keeping an interval of one day.

Pest control can also be carried out by using available material such as tomato and potato tops. The green parts are infused in water for several hours, and 1 kilogram of tops should be filled with 10 liters of liquid. The resulting solution will need to be sprinkled on the cucumbers.

Finally, an infusion of garlic cloves can also save you from the threat. The fruits are laid out together with dried celandine in a glass container and filled with warm water. You will need about 500 grams of garlic cloves, and they must be peeled. After the solution has been infused for 4 days, 25 milliliters of it are diluted in 10 liters of plain water.

A vinegar solution will help protect cucumbers from black aphids. Vinegar in an amount of 200 milliliters is dissolved in 10 liters of water, after which it can be sprayed on the plants every three days. If the pest appeared after the ants, you will have to deal with them at the same time. Dry mustard powder will help with both problems. It is either scattered in insect habitats, or diluted in water and used for spraying.

When a pest occurs in a greenhouse, a mixture of 30 grams of pepper, 200 grams of tobacco dust and 10 liters of water is often used. To enhance the effect, you can add ingredients such as soap flakes and wood ash. The latter is generally often used with this crop, because in addition to fighting insects, it also enriches the plant. To make a solution for spraying, take 200 grams of soap shavings, 200 grams of wood ash and dilute them in 10 liters of water.

Ammonia will also come to the rescue. It, in the amount of 50 milliliters, together with 25 grams of soap shavings, dissolves in 10 liters of water. You can either spray the green part of the plantings with the resulting liquid, or wipe the leaves with it a couple of times a week. Hydrogen peroxide will also be useful. A three percent solution in an amount of 50 milliliters is mixed with 50 grams of sugar and a liter of water.

Soda is the basis of various recipes for preventing aphids. For example, 70 grams of powder and 15 drops of any essential oil are mixed and dissolved in water. Everything is shaken up, and the cucumbers are sprayed with the resulting liquid every two days. If there is tar soap lurking in the pantry, then it can be used effectively. A third of the piece is stirred in water until completely dissolved, after which the plants are treated with the liquid.

Chemicals

The main advantage of potent chemistry is its instant action. It is worth using such means in emergency situations: when too many plantings are affected or when the entire crop is in danger of being destroyed. The disadvantage of chemical treatment is that it is prohibited to eat fruits for almost a month after the procedure, so you have to be prepared for the loss of some part of the harvest. You just have to tear them off and throw them away. Such products as Aktara, Intavir, Akarin and Fufanon have proven themselves.

In general, all chemical insecticides are divided into three groups: contact action, systemic action and organophosphorus. Upon contact exposure, the insect is poisoned by eating leaves treated with drugs or dies from direct exposure. In this case, the entire damaged plant is processed, even the leaves on both sides.

Systemic insecticides duplicate the contact effect, but are also absorbed into the plant when it is watered at the root. The juice inside the cucumber leaves becomes poisonous, but the aphids die even after tasting another part of the plant. This method is considered more effective.

Finally, when choosing organophosphate preparations, the poison is absorbed into the roots and then mixed with the juice of the leaves and stems. Of course, it is better to give preference to those drugs that combine all three of the above actions.

When all else fails and the cucumbers die in the greenhouse, you have to use a sulfur bomb. The most popular varieties are “Climate”, “Pawn” and “FAS”. This method not only eliminates aphids, but also kills ants and other pests. However, it has too many disadvantages. The nutritional value of the soil decreases, and corrosion of the metal parts of the greenhouse begins. In addition, most checkers are advised to be used only after the end of the season.

Biological

If traditional recipes don’t work, and it’s scary to deal with chemistry, then you should try biological drugs. Biological solutions, which are also called herbal remedies, allow you to harvest fruits within a couple of days after treatment. Their components paralyze the nervous system of pests that consume processed parts of cucumbers. As a result, the individuals stop feeding and die after a few days.

10 grams of powder are dissolved in a liter of water, and the resulting liquid is used for spraying. The drug "Tanrek" has positive reviews. Its 5 milliliters are mixed in 10 liters of cold water and, if necessary, supplemented with soap shavings, which improves adhesion to the leaves. If there is no heavy rainfall, the drug will be able to perform a protective function for a month.

Another effective drug is Strela. A sachet with 50 grams of the substance dissolves in 10 liters of water. You will have to treat twice a week if insects are present and once a month as a preventive measure. In addition, Iskra, Aktofit and Fitoverm found their fans.

They can be used at any stage of plant development without harming it. These drugs are also safe for humans.

Differences between insect control measures in greenhouses and open ground

When aphids settle in cucumber greenhouses, pest control and prevention methods are slightly different. The use of chemicals requires additional safety measures, because their use in a closed space can negatively affect human health. At a minimum, you will have to protect your respiratory tract, and wash your hands and face with soap when finished. In addition, after spraying, all windows and doors must be tightly closed.

On closed ground, the control of aphids will become more effective when applying fertilizers based on potassium and phosphorus. Typically, 20 grams of superphosphate and 10 grams of potassium sulfate are taken, which are diluted in 10 liters of water. After this, spraying is carried out.

In the fall, plant remains are removed from the greenhouse and the soil is dug up. If possible, the topsoil is changed or the soil is treated with chemical insecticides. Internal wooden elements are whitewashed. At the same time, the structure is fumigated with a sulfur bomb, but it is important to wait until the temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius.

Preventative measures begin with proper preparation of the greenhouse. Even before the seedlings are planted, the room is treated with a solution of copper sulfate, caustic soda or bleach. When planning beds, it is important to leave a gap of 70 centimeters between the bushes. Too dense plantings lead to active reproduction of aphids.

Don’t forget about regular ventilation, as well as watering and fertilizing regimes. Between the rows of cucumbers you can plant mustard and dill, the smell of which will repel the pest and attract its enemies. An important stage of care, as in open ground, is regular inspection.

When aphids are first discovered in a greenhouse, gardeners are advised to eliminate the damaged plant. Then you should check for ant trails and, if necessary, destroy them. Next, the glass is washed with copper sulfate dissolved in water.

All infusions should be used fresh and preferably in the evening, when there is no sunlight. It is forbidden to carry out treatment during the flowering stage, so as not to kill pollinating insects.

Prevention measures

To protect plantings from aphids, even preventing them from appearing on cucumbers, it is necessary to regularly carry out preventive measures - several times throughout the season. It is also important to follow the rules of care. Aphids like to spend the winter months on weeds, so they should be eliminated regularly. It is better to burn the tops.

Protection is impossible without checks, so it is worth making it a rule to periodically check the condition of the leaves, stems and fruits. If the insects can be detected at an early stage, then you will be able to limit yourself to tearing off the damaged leaves. Effective cultivation in greenhouses is impossible without a regular supply of fresh air. We must also not forget that the top layer of soil needs to be changed every season.

In addition to what you will have to do during the growth of the plant, even at the stage of purchasing seeds, you can take care of choosing a variety that has maximum resistance to pests. Then the seeds themselves are kept in special solutions. A little later, it would be nice to choose the right neighbors for the cucumbers - onions, garlic, mint, the smell of which repels insects.

It is necessary to think over the correct watering regime and, if desired, to populate the area with enemies of aphids - ladybugs and lacewings.

To learn how to fight aphids on cucumbers, see the following video.

With the beginning of the gardening season, all summer residents have more trouble not only with growing crops, but also with the fight against various pests. In greenhouses and gardens, cucumber plantings are often damaged by aphids. How to fight aphids on cucumbers using traditional methods and chemicals will be interesting for all gardeners to know.

In European countries, scientists have discovered about 1 thousand plant pests that feed on plant juices and also spread various diseases. This is a small bug, 1-2 mm in size, with a variety of colors: straw yellow, green, brown or black. With the help of a proboscis, she pierces the leaf and sucks beneficial juices from it. They live in large colonies, so in a few days they can destroy almost the entire leaf part of the plant.

What do aphids look like on cucumbers? This is a cluster of small insects of different colors, often green, that sit on cucumbers at the bottom of the leaves.

The main enemy of aphids is aphids, which are capable of eating more than 50 individuals per day, so they can be released into the greenhouse to combat the pest. Some insects also like to eat it: lacewings, gall midges, wasps.

The most common type of this pest is the melon aphid, which has 2 development phases: regular and winged. Wingless individuals reproduce directly on plants, while winged ones fly a short distance, finding new places to settle and feed. They live not only on cucumbers and tomatoes, but also on carrots, zucchini and pumpkin, and berry bushes, so it is better to plant such crops away from each other.

Ways to fight

Aphids on cucumbers, both in a greenhouse and in open ground, can cause the death of plants in a few days: cucumber leaves turn yellow and curl, ovaries stop appearing, and the vines become diseased. Therefore, as soon as aphids appear, regular treatment should be carried out by any means: during flowering and during fruiting.

On a note!

Popular folk methods to help destroy aphids:

  • Regularly washing the leaves on the reverse side with a damp sponge with soapy water: this procedure should be done carefully so as not to damage the delicate lashes and shoots. The optimal time for swimming is before dawn, when there is time to dry off.
  • Spraying cucumber plantings with dandelion infusion, for this, 500 g of roots and 500 g of shoots are poured with 3 liters of water and infused for a day, then strain the product and water the cucumbers using a spray bottle, paying attention to the back of the leaves. Do the treatment every other day.
  • can be in the form of an infusion, for which you take 150 g of fresh or 300 g of dried leaves, which are poured into 10 liters of hot water and left for a day. After filtering, the resulting product is watered over the beds. You should remember that celandine is poisonous and keep small children and pets away from it.
  • Sprinkle the cucumbers with an infusion of 1 kg of tomato or potato tops, chopped and infused in 10 liters of hot water for several hours. To avoid leaf burns, making a more concentrated solution is not recommended.
  • When aphids appear on cucumber leaves, treatment with a tincture of onion peels or a solution with red capsicum helps.
  • recommended in the form of a water tincture (30 g of chopped garlic per bucket), infused for 2 days, then strain. Garlic infusion is applied by treating plants with a spray bottle.
  • To spray cucumbers with water tincture of horseradish, you need to chop 7-8 roots, add 3 liters of water, leave for 3 hours, then drain the resulting product, add more liquid to the remaining pulp, drain again after 3 hours of infusion, mix both solutions. Before poisoning aphids, 1 tbsp. Add 5 liters of clean water to the finished horseradish product.

It is necessary to fight aphids regularly with folk remedies in the greenhouse and in the garden: all individuals will not disappear in one procedure, so spraying must be done in several stages.

Traditional methods

To make the fight against aphids more effective and for better adhesion of the solution to the leaves, it is necessary to add grated laundry or tar soap to it.

A few that help remove aphids:

  • 400 g and 80 g of soap are poured into a bucket of warm water for a day, strain and process;
  • from aphids: 200 g of ash and 50 g of soap per 10 liters of water, mix everything well and spray the leaves and cucumber shoots;
  • 10 g per 1 liter of water, leave for 2 days, add 60 g of soap shavings and 800 ml of distilled water to the resulting solution, spray the cucumbers from a spray bottle;
  • You can save cucumbers from the invasion of small pests using a solution of manganese in combination with, similarly, prevention from aphids is carried out using a solution of potassium permanganate for watering cucumber beds.

To get rid of aphids on cucumbers, experienced gardeners and gardeners use original folk methods of combating the use of various substances and liquids that can be found in the household: soda, vinegar, manganese, vodka or moonshine, ammonia for aphids - all this quite successfully helps to cope with pests.

Fighting aphids with folk remedies that can be easily prepared at home:

  • It is used as follows: a solution is made with 50 ml of alcohol mixed with 10 liters of water, and 25 g of soap is added to adhere to the leaves. Used to treat the inside of the leaves and spray the entire bush. This product is recommended no more than 2 times a week; the procedure should be carried out in dry, sunny weather.

    On a note!

    Using ammonia against aphids, you can solve several problems at once, because it contains nitrogen, which is widely used as a fertilizer for plants. Ammonia or ammonia has a very pungent odor, which repels pests, and spraying it with a solution fertilizes the plant with nitrogen and stimulates the growth of leaves and buds.

  • One of the substances often used by gardeners is used in its pure form with the addition of liquid soap; no need to add water.
  • is used quite often, thanks to its presence in the supplies of any housewife. To prepare the mixture, 75 g of soda is mixed with a bucket of water; you can spray vegetables, bushes and fruit trees. At the same time, this solution helps in the fight against rot and powdery mildew on cucumbers.
  • Many gardeners recommend using 1 tbsp for spraying. vinegar is added to 1 liter of water. vinegar essence will require 1 tbsp. on a bucket of water.
  • It is quite effectively used for processing vegetable crops, flowers and shrubs. To prepare the product, take 100 g of milk, a bottle of iodine, 1 liter of water and a syringe: first, 0.5 cubes of iodine are added to the milk, mixed and added to the water.
  • Hydrogen peroxide against aphids is a fairly popular remedy that allows you to protect plants and destroy pests.

Chemicals

Biological preparations for aphids do not pose a threat to human health; they infect a colony of insects, but do not poison the fruits and ovaries:

  • Entobacterin is an effective remedy for aphids on cucumbers, available in 0.1 g ampoules; after treatment, the pest colony becomes ill and dies within 6-7 days;
  • – a harmless product for fruits and vegetables, can be used during the fruiting period, has a detrimental effect on insects;
  • Strela is a drug for killing melon aphids, its effect at temperatures above 20º C begins the very next day after spraying the plants, and has positive reviews from gardeners.

Insecticide-based chemicals contain substances harmful to humans, so it is not recommended to consume the fruits for 1 month after consuming them. These drugs include: Intavir, Arrivo, . Before eating, all ripe fruits are removed.

The main rule when fighting aphids in cucumber plantings is alternating different means, since insects quickly get used to the previously used substances.

How to save cucumbers from aphids using folk remedies

A tick is not an insect and insecticides do not affect it. In the fight against this scourge, it is necessary to use acaricides or insectoacaricides. Unfortunately, there are practically no systemic acaricides that are safe for humans. It is necessary to use enteric-contact drugs. Therefore, it is very important to carry out the treatment very carefully and in the required number of repetitions (at certain intervals in order to destroy the younger generation of pests). At a temperature of +20 °C, at least 3 treatments are required with an interval of 9-10 days. At +30 °C 3-4 treatments with an interval of 3-4 days. Otherwise, the female that emerges from the egg has time to mature (6-7 days at +30 °C) and lay new eggs. For many years, gardeners have been using folk remedies for pest control, using a number of plants that have insecticidal properties that repel or destroy insect pests. You can plant cultivated plants with flowering plants or treat your plantings with decoctions and infusions from dried raw materials. These insecticidal plants contain alkaloids and other substances that are poisonous to insects. Plant poisons, compared to chemical means of protection, are safer for humans and the environment. However, we must remember that even in small doses they are not harmless to humans, therefore, when using them, one must adhere to the recommended dosage, and in no case exceed it. In this case, the saying “The more, the better” is not relevant. Spraying and other treatments should be carried out in the evening. It is very important to remember that plant poisons are used for prophylactic purposes, and if the pest has multiplied in large numbers, then the recommended dose may not destroy them. Plant poisons are used with restrictions throughout the world. Here are the plants that are most often used by amateur gardeners in the fight against spider mites. Marigolds (tagetes) – repels aphids, fleas and spider mites. Control method - you can plant flowering plants in beds or next to pumpkin and pepper plantings; this plant will repel insects. The plant is collected and dried during flowering and stored in jars. To prepare the infusion, take half a bucket of dry crushed plants and fill them with a bucket of warm water, leave for two days. Before spraying, filter the mass and add 40g of dissolved laundry soap. Prevents the development of blackleg, disinfects gladioli corms from fungal diseases. Calendula. Planted in currant plantings, near beds with peppers, cucumbers, eggplants, to combat aphids and mites, as well as to prevent blacklegs in asters. To prepare the infusion, take 400g of crushed inflorescences, add 2 liters of water, and leave for 5 days in a dark place. Then add water to 4 liters, filter and spray the plants. Potato. You can use fresh or dried tops against aphids and mites, as well as cabbage pests, white grass caterpillars and cutworms. To prepare the solution, use 1.2 kg of fresh or 0.6-0.8 kg of dried green tops, which are poured with 10 liters of warm water, left for 3-4 hours, then filtered and sprayed. To catch wireworm larvae, take halves of raw potatoes, place them on small twigs and bury them in the ground near the plant. After 5-6 days they dig it up, destroy the pests, replace the potatoes with new ones, and bury them again. Dandelion - used against aphids and mites. Take 400g of fresh leaves or 200g of the whole plant (with roots), crush it, pour in 10 liters of warm water (not higher than 40º), leave for 2-3 hours, filter and immediately use, spray the plants.

Onion peel. 200-400 g of onion peels are poured into 10 liters of hot water. Add 50 g of soap to 10 liters of infusion and foam well. The infusion is used against codling moths, aphids, spider mites and thrips on cucumbers. It is especially effective for combating bud mite - the spreader of the currant viral disease - terry disease. Spraying of plants should begin from the moment the flower brush extends and should be carried out in the evening or in cloudy weather every 5 days until the end of flowering. To destroy spider mites, plants are sprayed 3 times with an interval of 5 days. To combat pests, it is better to use the peels of hot onion varieties. Infuse it for one day and make the infusion on the day it is prepared. Tobacco. – To prepare a tobacco decoction, take 200 g of shag or snuff and leave it in 3 liters of water for 24 hours, then boil for 2 hours, filter and add to 10 liters. Pour 50 g of diluted laundry soap into the solution and foam. The decoction is recommended to be used immediately after preparation. Used against aphids, moths and other young caterpillars. Tobacco smoke. Collect vegetable debris in small piles, add wet straw or grass and sprinkle with tobacco dust and shag. Light these small fires early in the morning or evening. Smoke saturated with nicotine kills aphid larvae and other pests. Tobacco dust can also be used to pollinate plants against various insects.

The first reason is trivial - some of the lower leaves inside the bed turn yellow and die from lack of light. This is not a cause for concern at all, it is normal. As a rule, a cucumber bed is a real lush jungle; it is not surprising that light penetrates inside with difficulty and the lower old leaves do not have enough of it. In this case, just pick off the yellow leaves from time to time and enjoy the harvest. The second reason is a lack or excess of moisture. In normal summers, it is recommended to water cucumbers generously two to three times a week, and in hot summers - every day, thoroughly soaking the soil. Otherwise, the roots of the cucumbers will begin to “climb” to the surface of the earth in search of moisture and may dry out. This is a disaster for plants; both leaves and ovaries begin to turn yellow. Rainy weather is also not to the liking of cucumbers: the roots rot, rot forms on the stems, and as a result we see yellow leaves again. The third reason is fungal diseases. Most often, fusarium, pythiosis and other fungal diseases are the cause of yellow leaves on cucumbers. First, rusty spots appear on the tops, then the leaves become completely covered in spots, dry out, and fall off. Moreover, in the case of fusarium, the lashes become lethargic, like a rag, and do not respond to watering. If thirty-degree heat has given way to cold rains and lower night temperatures, hold on: fungi will not keep you waiting. The fourth reason is pests. Whiteflies or spider mites suck out all the juices from cucumber leaves, as a result the leaves turn yellow and die. In this case, the recommendations are obvious: a good pest is a dead pest. You will have to either spray the garden bed with “poison” or resort to folk remedies. The fifth reason is lack of nutrients. The most unlikely, but still common cause of yellowing cucumber leaves. If the edges of cucumber leaves turn yellow and dry out, they may be lacking potassium or magnesium. Dark green veins against a yellow background may signal a deficiency of iron or manganese. Yellowing of the upper leaves occurs due to a lack of copper. Feeding will help correct this situation. Well, the last reason for yellow leaves is old age. Over time, the cucumber leaf becomes coarser, ages, stops photosynthesis, turns yellow and dies. Most likely, by this time you have already eaten your fill of cucumbers, and the aging lashes do not bother you. But if you want a fresh cucumber straight from the garden before the fall, there are ways to “extend the life” of cucumber vines, and we will talk about them later.

It would be nice to supplement the question with the conditions of care and place of residence for cucumbers.

Two-tailed is the popular name for the common earwig. A nocturnal pest that gnaws holes in everything. He especially loves to eat dahlia flowers, young plants and much more. Correctly noted - it commits atrocities at night. Control measures include spraying with infusions of garlic or onion. You can put planks or grass - they will hide under them for the day. Collect and destroy.

Two-tailed fish are “predators”; they feed on live prey and dead organic matter. So they are helpers in the garden.

Folk remedies against aphids on cucumbers

There are many recipes. From chemistry. Before folk recipes. Fighting garden ants is fighting aphids. But how to get rid of it when it is numerous and prolific. Simply destroying an anthill does nothing. Repeated destruction of the anthill and pollination with tobacco dust gives only a temporary effect. The number of the enemy is reduced slightly. Hard workers are rebuilding the anthill again. All the same, somewhere deep in the ground there are flying females, continuously reproducing new warriors, and working ants. These beasts are unusually prolific, and when the time comes, new flying progenitors emerge from the anthills, scatter throughout the garden, giving rise to new ant families. Fighting aphids and garden ants is difficult, especially if you do not want to use the achievements of modern chemistry. Herbal infusions only repel the pest without reducing its numbers. What are the biological methods of control? The natural enemy of aphids is the ladybug, but where can you get this beneficial insect in large quantities? Have you ever watched how a river during flood brings heaps of last year’s grass from the meadows? There are sometimes thousands of these insects in this grass. I collected them in a plastic bag and brought them to the garden. But they know no boundaries. They don't care where they work. They spread and scatter all over the area. Now about the garden ant. You can use a large forest ant against it. This hard worker, destroying a lot of harmful insects, is very aggressive. Once upon a time in childhood we played ant war. They took a reed of the marsh cattail and put it in the ant heap. Ants that clung to a hostile object were transferred to another anthill. Each ant family has its own smell. Therefore, the owners always attack and kill the strangers they bring. I used this property to fight the garden ant. The forest ant is many times larger and stronger than the garden ant. True, some gardeners even make complaints about the forest ant, saying that it, like any ant, loves sweets. He can climb on peony buds, which have sugary secretions, as well as on raspberries. Firstly, a forest ant that destroys pests can be placed in a certain place in the garden. Secondly, you can use its positive qualities without burdening yourself with the neighborhood.

This infection needs to be sprayed with poison BI-58, such a stink kills everything at once)))))

Moisten with water and sprinkle with ash. Verified.
