Patchwork bedspread in the interior

Maximum of soft and comfortable things, a lot of textiles, homely, natural materials. The house is calm and safe, friends gather here, it’s not boring to be here yourself, curled up in your favorite handmade blanket and immersed in dreams. By the way, about handmade and bedspread. We offer to bring this luxurious picture to life and create a patchwork patchwork quilt with your own hands.

What materials are needed for a patchwork bedspread?

Well, let's start by defining the concept of patchwork. This is a technique that allows you to sew a whole blanket, or rug, or even a bag, clothing, stole, from many different small scraps. Such products are not only warm and therefore practical, but very stylish and authentic, which means they can decorate the interior. We will sew a blanket. What we need:

  • remnants of various fabrics (it is desirable that they be of approximately the same quality, or at least the same thickness);
  • ruler, pencil;
  • scissors;
  • fleece;
  • fabric for the wrong side (denim can be used);
  • thread, needle or sewing machine;
  • for a more complex option you will need a diagram.

Technique for creating a bedspread from scraps

For starters, you can try sewing DIY patchwork blanket from squares. Then you don’t have to think about the pattern and sewing the bedspread will be easier.

You need to cut out many identical squares from the scraps - use a pencil and ruler so as not to make mistakes in the sizes.

If you have a sewing machine, the process will go much faster. Sew the squares in rows, and then sew the rows themselves. When the fabric is ready, it needs to be ironed from the inside to straighten the seams.

Pattern of a patchwork bedspread

Then you need to measure the item to cut the appropriate fleece fabric. Now place the blanket face up on the fleece.

The next step is to also cut out a fabric from denim or any other fabric - this will be the inside of the blanket. Next, lay the denim right side down on the fleece and blanket stack.

Your stack can be basted a little and then topstitched. Leave a hole in one of the corners so that the blanket can be turned inside out. If you did everything correctly, you will have denim on one side, a quilt front on the other, and fleece on the inside. The hole must be sewn up with hidden seams and the finished product must be ironed again.

Patchwork quilt pattern

If you want to increase the size of the blanket, then at the assembly stage you can lay plain strips of fabric between the squares. Now you have a finished patchwork quilt.

DIY patchwork blanket: using patterns

A more complex pattern will require precision cutting and a diamond eye. First, study your stock of scraps: what material is plentiful, what is less, and what is generally in short supply. Next, you can come up with a diagram yourself by drawing it on a sheet of paper with paints or pencils, or take ready-made templates.

Remember that it is most convenient to sew the flaps in blocks, and then sew these blocks together. Don't forget to leave seam allowances, otherwise you will end up with a product that is half the size you expect.

When creating a patchwork quilt with your own hands, patterns can be easily found on the Internet, and from their description, it is clear that they recommend choose at least 6 different fabric colors.

Choosing filling for a quilt

Since the products are different, the filler required is different. They consist of at least 2–3 layers:

  1. Beautifully designed top.
  2. The filler, or as it is commonly called, the insulation of the blanket.
  3. The bottom part of the blanket is called the lining.

It is worth noting that if you create a patchwork quilt with your own hands without a second layer, then you will succeed very beautiful bedspread. Most often, it is customary to use synthetic winterizer as a filler or insulation. This material does not shrink or deform after exposure to water. And this quality is perfect for creating things using the patchwork technique. But if you want to sew a baby blanket for a newborn, then it is better to resort to using only natural materials in production. Here several natural-based fillers for sewing a patchwork quilt:

But you can also assemble all the equipment yourself, because many tools are found in every home’s sewing drawer. In order to start practicing this needlework technique, you will need to stock up on this list of necessary tools and materials:

  1. Well-sharpened scissors or a quilting knife.
  2. Sewing needles.
  3. Threads.
  4. A simple pencil.
  5. Tailor pins.
  6. Measuring tape in centimeters.
  7. Tailor chalk or soap.
  8. Paper.
  9. Sewing machine.
  10. Material for flaps.
  11. Natural insulation for blankets.
  12. Lining.

DIY baby quilt for girls

Products using this technique can be created for both girls and boys; all you need to do is simply change the color of the fabric. To create a baby blanket for a girl, use the desired pink shades of cotton fabrics and use natural insulation as a filler.

When creating a patchwork quilt, you can watch a master class for beginners on the Internet to get a rough idea of what kind of work you have to do. As it became clear from the video, novice needlewomen often use the chess patchwork technique.

Materials for production:

  1. Scissors.
  2. Threads.
  3. Fabric in two shades of pink.
  4. Paper.
  5. Pencil.

Take paper and draw a diagram according to which we will cut and sew a baby blanket for a newborn. As a rule, a small square blanket measuring 120 by 120 cm is sewn for children. Cut out a square from the paper with which you will cut. Using the diagram, count how many squares of different fabrics you will need and start cutting.

Cutting out the fabric distribute the flaps in a checkerboard pattern. And start sewing the pieces of fabric together, ironing each seam from the inside with an iron and steam. As soon as the top fabric is ready, iron it properly and begin basting the insulation. Distribute the batting or wool over the surface of the product and baste it by hand, it will be more convenient, then sew on a sewing machine so that the fabric does not bunch up.

Quilt the blanket along with the insulation along the existing seams from the flaps. Sew each square, this will allow the insulation not to bunch up and keep its shape during use.

From one solid piece of material, cut out the lining for the bottom of the baby blanket. And also baste and stitch on the machine, three sides and half of the fourth. Carefully turn out and hand-sew the remaining portion of the blanket. That's it, the beautiful baby blanket for a newborn girl is ready and can be used for its intended purpose.

Patchwork baby blanket using the well technique

When creating patchwork quilts with your own hands, photos of sample works can be viewed on the Internet. When you see a product made using the technique of joining flaps called a well, you definitely won’t be able to pass it by. Remember the main rule for sewing: when stitching, the patches should go to the side precisely from the center of the product. So, creates the right visual effect.

In the photo, you can see that it is best to take larger shreds, or, more precisely, not huge, but long. It would be better to say that it has a regular rectangular elongated shape.

Step-by-step instruction to make such a product it will look like this:

  1. Take a sheet of plain paper or whatman paper is much better, and draw a diagram as shown in the picture with your dimensions.
  2. Each element is drawn in full size on separate sheets.
  3. Lay out all the stencils that will be used to cut out the flaps on the fabrics. For sewing using this technique, it is best not to overdo it with the number of colors; two quite contrasting colors will be enough. We add about 1 cm of allowance to each piece to sew the parts together.
  4. After cutting out the elements for making a blanket is completed, we recommend laying out the entire drawing from them in the assembly to see what happens and whether you did everything correctly. Take fabric for cutting on a cotton basis, and, of course, the same texture.
  5. Baste the parts together and iron them properly, so that later it will be easier to sew on a sewing machine.
  6. Connect all the squares of the structure together using a sewing machine, press all the seams on the inside.
  7. Now add a second layer of insulation inside and stitch it along the existing seams on the blanket. Since we are making a baby blanket, the insulation must accordingly be natural, this has already been discussed above in the article.
  8. Then we cut the back side out of the lining material and sew it to the product.

That's all, the master class on creating a baby blanket for newborns using the well technique is finished.

Master class on sewing a children's patchwork quilt with panels

Your baby will really like this educational blanket. After all, various elements will be collected on its surface that can be touched and felt. And most importantly, children learn about the world by putting into their mouths everything they can get their hands on, and he can chew this blanket calmly, since we will make it only from natural fabrics and materials.

To complete this master class you will need the following materials:

  1. Cotton fabric in different pastel colors to create the front part of the product.
  2. Natural based insulation.
  3. Lining.
  4. Multi-colored material with cartoon characters, and regular plain material in different colors, it is best to take all the colors of the rainbow.
  5. Large buttons.
  6. Pieces of fur.
  7. Threads.
  8. Scissors.
  9. A simple pencil.
  10. Sketch paper.

Algorithm for creating a patchwork product:

  • Take the main fabric and cut it into shreds, there is no need to be overzealous with drawing up a pattern or ornament, the main thing and interesting thing in this technique will be made as a panel at the top.
  • Having sewn the top of the blanket, iron it properly along the seams and stitch it to the insulation.
  • Sew a lining at the bottom for our lovely baby blanket.

That's it, one part of the work is ready, we made a patchwork quilt in pastel colors of different shades so that the overall background does not stand out in any way, and the panel looks beautiful and bright against its background. Now let’s think about what we want to see on top of the product, for this we take paper and pencil and begin to fantasize.

In the center we need to develop the main plot, for this we can take scraps with cartoon characters of the same size and sew them on top of the blanket. So, we will have beautiful cartoon characters that your baby will then fall in love with. Along the edges of each patch with cartoons you need to put a thick canvas so that the baby, lying on such a beautiful blanket, can touch it and develop his fine motor skills.

Now let’s unfold the storyline in the corners of the product, since we have already thought through the center of the panel. We have four corners that need to be somehow played out for the benefit of the baby’s development. For example, in the first corner you can place various geometric shapes of different colors.

When sewing them onto a blanket, you can put a little cotton wool inside the squares and triangles, so they will become voluminous and beautiful. The baby will touch them and remember the shape, and the mother, playing with him, will tell what geometric figure it is and its color. The entire perception of children is laid down from childhood, even if it seems to you that they don’t listen or remember anything, but this is not so, then you will wonder where they could get this knowledge from when you start talking and remember the wonderful blanket created with your own hands.

The second corner can honorably be occupied by a small clearing of flowers, so to speak, a flower bed with clearly defined flower tops and leaves on the stem. To create such beauty we can use very large buttons for the center of the bud, and small ones for the petals. Draw no more than three flowers on the sketch, it is better to make them large, it will be more interesting for the baby to play with them. When making such a panel on a blanket, remember that you need to sew all the details more than once, since the kids will pull and bite all parts of your panel.

The flowers will be made from buttons of different sizes, We recommend simply sewing the stem from green material, but the leaves need to be made as convex as the geometric shapes; when sewing on the parts, place a little cotton wool inside. You can frame the bottom by creating a flower pot or vase from the material.

The third corner can be decorated by creating a bunny or a pussy from the material; on top of the parts you can carefully sew pieces of fur onto the body. While playing with such a panel, the child will stroke the animal and understand that it is soft and fluffy, so we can teach him how to stroke it, and not tear the hair out of animals. You can sew an applique of a cat, a bunny and a bear. Whatever you want and can do, the main thing is to remember that you are trying for your own baby.

In the fourth corner you can create unique pockets sewn onto the blanket. The baby can put toys or something else small there. Or do something else, if you have any other ideas, this is your blanket and you can do whatever you want with it. Sew on large zippers to fasten and unfasten with your baby.

By performing master classes on making patchwork products for our kids, you will plunge into the world of childhood, so beautiful and extraordinary.

These days there are a huge number of techniques for needlework. Recently, the patchwork technique has been increasingly used. Products made using the patchwork method look very unusual, but at the same time elegant. A patchwork blanket is perfect for decorating a boy's or girl's nursery. You can make such a product yourself. All you need is a specific fabric pattern and a little patience.

Before starting work, you must decide on the choice of fabric. The choice of material will depend on the style of the room. It is desirable that the color of the pattern and furniture be the same.

Experts advise giving preference to cotton. This material does not shrink after washing and retains its color for a long time.

DIY patchwork quilt for a newborn: step-by-step instructions

You can sew a patchwork quilt for a newborn at home. To sew in a patchwork style, you will need thread No. 45, a square template made of cardboard or plastic, pins, needles, chalk, measuring tape, scissors.

Pay special attention to the choice of fabric. If you are sewing a blanket for newborn babies, use cotton materials. Chintz, linen or calico will do.

In addition, before you start sewing, decide on the material for the insulation. Experts recommend giving preference to batting or padding polyester. These materials cannot harm the health of the child.

A blanket for children should be sewn in the following order:

  • First, cut the fabric into individual pieces using a template. It is advisable to number all pieces of fabric.
  • Sew all the square pieces into strips and then connect them together. Iron the flaps before sewing them together.
  • Pin two pieces of fabric together and stitch them together.
  • Place the lining face down on the surface. The dimensions of this blank should be at least 5 cm larger than the shreds.
  • Place a layer of batting or padding polyester on the lining. Place the facing material (shreds) on top.
  • Pin the blanket together.
  • Stitch the blanket using a special darning foot.
  • The final stage of making a blanket for children is edging. To carry out this operation you will need 4 strips. The length and width of the strips should be a couple of centimeters larger than the dimensions of the blanket.
  • Sew the strips to the edges of the blanket.
  • Finally, hand stitch using strong threads.

Baby Quilts: Sewing Techniques

The most common patterns for sewing patchwork quilts are “Honeycomb”, “Arable”, “American Square” and “Checker”. Typically, a baby blanket is sewn using the Honeycomb technique. A product made using this technology looks very attractive and fits harmoniously into the interior of a children's room. This technique involves making one decorative element from 7 hexagons, which have different colors.

The “Arable land” technique is the simplest and is perfect for beginners. To make a blanket using this technique, you will need pieces of fabric that will be cut into separate strips.

The sewing pattern for the “Arable land” type is as follows:

  1. The blanket area is divided into 3 identical sections, the boundaries of each should be located at right angles to each other.
  2. Then each section is divided into parallel strips.
  3. All stripes are numbered.
  4. Stripes with the same number must be the same color.

The American Square pattern uses a sewing technique in which all the colored stripes are sewn in a spiral around a small square. Typically, this technology is used in the manufacture of contrasting products. “Chess” is also a common technique. It involves sewing strips of fabric from squares of different colors.

Caring for a Quilt

In order to maintain the good appearance of a patchwork product, you need to follow some rules. First of all, a patchwork blanket needs to be washed properly. Experts do not recommend washing too often. It is recommended to wash such items by hand in soapy water.

To avoid damage to the fabric, it is important to iron the blanket correctly. If you used padding polyester as a filler, ironing is prohibited. Otherwise, the blanket will lose its texture.

  • If you need to hide the blanket for a while, do not fold it. It is better to roll the product.
  • If you decide to machine wash your blanket, use the most gentle setting. The optimal water temperature for washing a quilt is 35-40 degrees. Spin must be turned off.
  • Using bleach to wash a quilt is strictly prohibited.

Making a quilt for a child is quite simple. To do this, you do not need to go to any master class. Just stick to the basic rules of patchwork. It is very important to maintain the symmetry of the squares when working. Otherwise, the blanket will turn out ugly, and the baby is unlikely to like it. When choosing fabrics, pay attention to the fabric. Give preference to natural cotton fabrics, because they are non-toxic and not harmful to the child’s health.

Children's patchwork blanket (photo)

A patchwork quilt, a grandmother's quilt, a patchwork-style quilt - these are not all the names of the techniques with which miracles are sewn from scraps. For a long time, such blankets were sewn in order to save fabric - they were created from scraps that remained from sewing other products. You can sew a patchwork quilt with your own hands; the patterns for laying out the elements are rich and varied.

Baby blanket

Sewing children's clothes using the patchwork technique is very popular among needlewomen. To sew a children's patchwork quilt with your own hands, you don't have to take the patterns for laying out the patches on the Internet; you can come up with them yourself. For example, for a baby blanket, designs in the form of flowers, animals, birds, and plants are suitable. Simple and uncomplicated geometric patterns will also look great in a nursery.

You can sew a blanket using several technologies:

  1. Smaller elements are sewn onto the main flap.
  2. The entire surface of the blanket is sewn together from parts.

Depending on which technology is chosen, the thickness and warmth of the blanket will vary.

In order to sew a patchwork quilt with your own hands, the pattern, a photo of which is presented in our article, must be strictly adhered to. To work, you will need 3 types of fabrics: floral, light yellow and pink.

Cutting fabric for a baby blanket

First of all, a pattern is built. To do this, triangles are drawn in natural size on a sheet of paper that corresponds to the size of the future blanket.

Squares measuring 11 by 11 cm are cut out of floral fabric (it is assumed that the square itself is 10 by 10 in size, and 1 cm on each side is for stitching the parts). 10 squares are cut out - 5 of them remain whole, and 5 are cut into triangles diagonally. You get 10 triangles.

Using the same principle, elements are cut out from fabrics of other colors: 8 pink triangles, 4 yellow.

Now the resulting elements are placed face down on the pattern. This is done in order to check whether the parts fit together. The size of the pieces should be such that they slightly overlap each other.

Before stitching, all parts must be thoroughly steamed to avoid creases and unevenness. When the parts are ironed, they are laid out according to the pattern and basted to each other.

Sewing the quilt pieces

Experienced seamstresses can sew parts directly on a machine. To do this, first triangular elements are sewn together - pink with a floral, yellow with a central square. And only then are the larger parts sewn onto the smaller ones.

If you plan to make the blanket double-sided, with the same arrangement of parts, then you need to repeat the operations described above again. You will get two large pieces of fabric consisting of flaps.

If the backing is plain, you can start stitching right away. To do this, the smoothed and steamed parts of the future blanket are placed on top of each other with the front part facing inward. All sides are sewn along the perimeter, with a 5 mm indentation from the edge. A small area remains on one side through which the blanket is turned inside out and then closed manually.

Ideas for Beginners

To master working in the patchwork style, it is better for beginners to take on simpler patterns that contain fewer elements and are easier to connect with each other.

If you want to sew a patchwork quilt with your own hands, patterns for beginners must be taken with large parts.

For example, to sew an adult blanket measuring 180 cm by 90 cm, you need to cut 9 rectangles from fabrics of different colors. The size of the rectangles is 60 cm by 30 cm, with an allowance of 1 cm on each side.

You can use fabrics that are the same texture and color. You can focus on one color and complement others. In the photo, the main color is soft white, with accents of bright patches.

When all the parts are cut out, they begin to sew together. First, blocks of 3 patches are sewn together, then the resulting strips are laid out according to the pattern and stitched together. For a double-sided blanket, the manipulations are repeated again.

The two finished blocks are sewn together from the wrong side, turned inside out and carefully ironed. For strength and density, the resulting blank is carefully stitched again along the lines of the rectangles.

You can give the blanket an interesting textured look if the stitching along the front part is done with zigzag stitches. Also, the seams can be placed in any shape - geometric, abstract, like animals or flowers.

This is how you get a patchwork quilt with your own hands. The patterns of 9 patches are not very diverse, but they allow you to get acquainted with the technique of sewing beginners. And the sequential connection of several blocks of 9 parts makes it possible to create a large blanket from small elements.

Blanket "well"

The block system of sewing a blanket is that all the elements in the pattern visually and actually diverge from the center or tend towards it.

The work begins with drawing up a diagram and calculating the number of flaps. Such blankets can contain about 2,000 pieces. Beginner seamstresses should not take on such a complex product - it is too easy to get confused in the pattern and allowances when creating a patchwork quilt with your own hands. “Well” patterns imply that the product is sewn from the center to the edges.

  1. A pattern is being drawn up. To do this, a life-size drawing of the future blanket is drawn on a sheet of paper.
  2. For each element, part of the pattern is transferred to a separate sheet.
  3. Pieces for a blanket are cut out from scraps of fabric. The allowance for each part is 0.7 cm - this means that on each side of each element it is necessary to indent 7 mm from the edges to sew the parts together. Cotton fabric of two colors is used for work. You can use fabrics of different textures, but then you should take into account that you need to work with them differently, and the pattern may get lost when sewing.
  4. When all the parts are cut out, they are laid out on the pattern and checked against the drawing. If everything is correct, start sweeping.
  5. The basted parts are ironed again and sewn on a machine. The stitching is done in blocks - first the corners, then the central part of small squares, then triangles are sewn to the corner elements.
  6. After the blocks are ready, they are sewn together. All work is done from the inside out. After each stitching, the fabric must be thoroughly steamed so that the seams fit well.

Make a patchwork quilt with your own hands, the layout diagrams of which are given above, and it will perfectly decorate the bed.

Blanket "Bird"

It's always interesting to sew a patchwork quilt with your own hands - diagrams, master classes and descriptions help any needlewoman achieve an excellent result.

You can sew an unusual blanket if you show a little imagination. For example, the “Birds” blanket is not difficult to sew, but as a result it will definitely be pleasing to the eye.

To work you will need the following parts:

  • whole squares 6.35 cm by 6.35 cm;
  • triangles cut from halves of squares, measuring 7.6 cm;
  • the beak (nose) is half the area of the square;
  • legs 6.35 cm, grass 6.35 cm.

Sewing the quilt pieces

First, the finished shreds are laid out face up to form a pattern. When the beak, wings, and legs of the bird are in place, it is necessary to carefully turn over all the elements without disturbing the arrangement of the parts.

Then the process of stitching the blocks begins. First - those parts where there are triangular elements. This is done along vertical lines. Then long vertical strips are formed from small pieces and sewn together.

To create a proper DIY quilt, the patterns must be clear. If the bird's background is too colorful, then the main pattern - the bird itself - will be poorly visible. When choosing a material, you need to pay attention to the quality of the fabric. It is desirable that it does not crumble when cutting and sewing. And if the texture is different, then you first need to prepare the fabrics, and only then start stitching.

Denim blanket

Often, needlewomen are visited by the desire to create something non-trivial and use available materials. An unusual idea that allows you to sew a patchwork quilt with your own hands: patterns from denim.

There are old jeans, and most likely more than one, in every home. It’s a pity to part with him, because they served faithfully for a long time. However, you can give them a second chance by sewing them into a blanket.

To work, you will need several pairs of jeans - men's, women's, children's. They need to be ripped apart along the side and internal seams, and then the resulting blanks should be washed and ironed. 32 squares measuring 5 cm by 5 cm are cut out of the main parts, with an allowance of 0.7 cm. Of these, 8 squares are cut into halves. For the side stripes, thin pieces of denim are cut. Their number and width may vary. The main thing is that as a result they overlap the main square.

Connecting parts

When starting to join the parts, first sew strips of fabric diagonally. They start with square blocks, then triangles are sewn to the sides. The finished block is carefully ironed.

Along the perimeter, strips of small pieces of jeans are attached to a large piece of workpiece. There should be 4 such long strips; they must be sewn overlapping each other. Two large blocks sewn together will form an interesting denim blanket.

To sew a patchwork quilt with your own hands, the patterns can be changed at your discretion. For example, place parts at different angles, vary the use of textures and materials, try combinations of different fabric textures.

Recently, many people prefer to make bedspreads and blankets with their own hands. If you want to sew any item yourself, give preference to the patchwork technique. Blankets made in this style look very attractive and are easy to make. This product can be made from remnants of fabric of different textures.

Making a patchwork quilt is easy. To do this you will need a sewing machine, thread, needle, scissors and pins.

It is very important to choose the right fabric for your blanket. Experts advise using white cotton fabric with a printed pattern. Also, to make a blanket you will need padding polyester.

The algorithm for making a blanket is as follows:

  1. From a piece of fabric, make squares of the required size.
  2. Place the resulting squares on the surface.
  3. Sew all the squares vertically.
  4. After this, combine all the resulting parts into a single canvas.
  5. Make two strips 16 cm wide.
  6. Sew the strips to the edges of the blanket.
  7. Pin the padding polyester to the top of the blanket using needles. Remove excess fabric.
  8. Make a fabric for the lining from 2 pieces of fabric. Sew the resulting parts to the main fabric.
  9. Sew the outline of the resulting product.

Making a patchwork blanket: a master class for beginners

If you are just getting started with patchwork techniques, you can use simpler patterns. To make a blanket using a simplified pattern, you will need plain calico, a sheet of padding polyester, and scraps of different colors.

First you need to cut out at least 50 squares of fabric. Each side must be at least 21 centimeters. You can combine scraps of different colors. This will help you create a unique pattern.

The algorithm for sewing a blanket for beginners is as follows:

  • Place the squares on a surface. Form a pattern and carefully consider the composition of the product.
  • Start sewing the patches together. Sew strips of squares and then connect them together. Don't forget to smooth the canvas from time to time. This will prevent the fabric from shrinking.
  • Make a lining for the blanket. Remember to leave small allowances.
  • Fold the canvas, filling and lining. Pin the resulting product together.
  • Sew along the edges of the blanket.
  • If necessary, sew trim to the edges of the blanket.

How to sew a patchwork blanket quickly

Many masters working in the patchwork style adhere to the “quick squares” technique. This technology saves a lot of time.

When making a quilt using the quick square method, you will need several chintz patterns. Before starting work, soak the fabric in hot water and then rinse thoroughly. Then starch the chintz and run an iron over the material.

The technique for making a blanket from squares is as follows:

  1. From 2 pieces of fabric of different colors, cut 2 strips of the same size. Then place them face to face and stitch along one edge.
  2. Then cut a strip of chintz, the width of which should be the same as the previous two strips combined.
  3. Sew strip 3 to the first two. Don't forget to put them face to face. As a result, you should end up with something like a sleeve.
  4. Cut the resulting sleeve into several isosceles triangles.
  5. Place the prepared fabric for the wrong side of the blanket (for example, chintz or cambric) on the surface. Lay padding polyester and part and double triangles on top (when turned out they should have the configuration of squares).
  6. Sew the product around the entire perimeter.
  7. Make a blanket border. To do this you will need a strip of natural fabric. It needs to be stitched to the blanket, and then tucked in and stitched again.
  8. Using the same method, process all edges of the blanket.

DIY double-sided patchwork bedspread

A double-sided patchwork bedspread looks harmonious if your room is in a country style. To make a bedspread you will need threads, a sewing machine, a knife, scissors, and fabric patterns.

Before starting work, you need to make squares to create a bedspread. If the size of the finished canvas is 1.5x2.3 meters, it is advisable to use square flaps with a side of at least 23 cm. The size of the padding polyester lining for the blanket should be slightly smaller than the dimensions of the finished canvas.

The technique for sewing the bedspread is as follows:

  • First you need to prepare the fabric. To do this, wash and iron the material thoroughly. If you use cotton fabrics, it is recommended to starch them.
  • Once you have prepared the scraps, place the two squares right sides together. Be sure to leave a 1.5 cm seam allowance.
  • Sew two squares.
  • Sew another piece of paper to the resulting piece. Repeat this procedure until you have a strip of 6 squares. You need to make at least 9 of these strips. After finishing the stitching, iron the resulting workpieces.
  • Place two adjacent strips with the right sides facing each other, and connect them with pins. Sew the strips. Repeat this procedure for all strips.
