What awaits you “remotely” at the VEGU Academy

If you haven’t decided on the form of study, you don’t know what to choose - correspondence or distance learning, you’re afraid to study remotely because you have no idea how everything works, then this article is for you. In it we will talk in detail about what awaits a person who enrolls in distance learning at the VEGU Academy.

    Virtual Campus

At the VEGU Academy, “VEGU Campus 24” was specially created for distance learning students - an electronic information and educational platform within which students study and communicate.

Study groups have been created at VEGU Campus 24, which include students studying in the same direction and in the same semester. When studying a specific discipline, all students fall into a subject group, which is a virtual analogue of a classroom.

The learning process takes place through subject groups. They contain the work programs of the disciplines, all the necessary educational and methodological materials, links to electronic courses, video lectures and webinars for each discipline.

    Tutor = curator

Each student is assigned a tutor - a curator who helps him in the learning process. You can send messages to your tutor at any time of the day or night. The student will receive detailed answers to his questions within a strictly established time frame.

As part of their studies, students are provided with constant and unlimited access to modern electronic library systems and other electronic educational resources. There is no longer any need to go to the library, order and wait for textbooks and teaching aids. All recommended educational and educational literature is open to students, and they can refer to it at any time.

Students receive individual consultations from teachers, take part in group consultations, webinars and video lectures by leading university teachers, practitioners from organizations, and employers from all over the country. In the electronic information and educational environment, there is an opportunity to reveal your research and creative abilities by participating in various scientific competitions and extracurricular projects.

All disciplines studied are provided with electronic courses containing all the necessary information on the scope of the discipline, covering the main issues of the course, complex cases demonstrating examples of solving complex problems, equipped with additional educational literature. Electronic courses also contain demo testing in all sections of the discipline.

    Useful Campus services

The Campus has a Notification Center that provides students with a variety of information about events, consultations, webinar schedules, etc. Thanks to this, students are always up to date with university events. All necessary certificates (on training, certificate of call) can be ordered through “Campus 24”, and there you can also fill out an application for assignment to practice.

“Live feed” helps to learn about the life of the university, latest events, news, comments, etc. All Campus users can communicate with each other, with teachers and tutors via instant messages in business chat. In essence, the Campus is a social network of a university with a full range of familiar and convenient features.

    How does the “session” work?

Students studying remotely take exams and tests as they are ready, at the most convenient time for them during the academic semester.

Each student receives an individual task, which presents an individual trajectory for studying the discipline and completing tasks. For each completed task (checkpoints) points are awarded. Based on the sum of the points received, the final grade for the discipline is formed, which characterizes the level of mastery of the material. If you disagree with the final grade, the student has the right to retake the test points an unlimited number of times.

We hope that now you have an idea of how distance learning takes place at the VEGU Academy, and you no longer have any doubts about which form of training to choose!

Campus 24/7 - a new generation educational environment

Vladivostok, February 4, newspaper “Ostrov.ru”. Not only studies, but also the education of students depend on how the campus is organized. Whether they will be free, creative, independent, and open to everything new depends, among other things, on their environment. Project Campus 24/7, aimed at transforming the FEFU campus, will transform the entire university into a self-developing, constantly updating educational space that will contribute to the formation of a new type of person. The implementation of this project is planned within the framework of ByProject 5–100 .

    Living Campus

“A campus is not just buildings, but a social organism,” says the FEFU campus development projector Vladimir Nikolaev. - This is the permanent habitat of students, where they study, live, spend their free time, and grow up. In essence, a campus is an educational space that should help a young person develop as an individual with a set of certain qualities and competencies - determination, creativity, the ability to think systematically, and express oneself. At the same time, the campus must meet the most modern needs of applicants from abroad who choose FEFU over other foreign universities.

However, despite the known advantages of our campus, we find noticeable gaps between what we have and the requirements of the future. We still have last-century ideas about university infrastructure. Premises and spaces are used ineffectively. The ideology “My office is my corner” is alive. Now, in the era of mobile and virtual technologies, such a connection to a place is not needed; it interferes with movement, communication, and change. The efficiency from the use of campus spaces and infrastructure should be maximum. Then the campus will truly be alive. Therefore, we have developed a project to reorganize the campus, during which it should become more modern and efficient. Willingness to change, to change space, educational and scientific trajectories over time are qualities without which we have no place in the dynamic world of the future, notes Vladimir Nikolaev.

Our students are present on campus constantly, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is important that all the time they spend here is spent beneficially for their professional growth. This also applies to teachers and staff. That’s why we called our project Campus 24/7 - this is a symbol of constant movement, maximum opportunities, continuous effective work,” explains the director of the FEFU Youth Policy Department Ilya Yaskov.

As the authors of the project reported, in the coming years the FEFU campus will experience great changes. They will affect the operating mode of the campus, the redistribution of premises and their restructuring will be carried out. The campus needs reconstruction to meet the requirements of modern educational technologies. The university must create multifunctional transformable spaces and communication platforms that embody the principles of interdisciplinarity and zoning, energy efficiency and environmental friendliness, an accessible language environment must operate, large spaces are needed, and they must have high efficiency.

The principles of openness and freedom will be embodied in auditoriums with glass walls, exhibition areas, open laboratories and food and recreation areas, and service areas. The former offices should be replaced by co-working spaces for teachers, and for project work - a network of classrooms with a capacity of 6–10 people. There will also be public laboratories (Fab Labs), communication areas where classes can be held, classrooms for training and group work, mini-cinemas... Such campus refurbishment can begin now, and in the future this approach will become the basis for the construction of a second campus queues.

It is very important for people of intellectual work not to forget about physical activity. Sports corners located near departments and laboratories can help with this. Why not play during a break or window? This will help not only to relax, but also to communicate with colleagues in an informal setting.

The project can begin by installing Wi-Fi in all campus buildings, equipping communication areas like the Ajax coworking space with maximum operating hours, installing benches in the corridors, and improving the orientation system inside the campus.

By August 2017, it is planned to conduct an audit of the premises, an inventory of property and the first reconstruction. Significant changes are expected in the campus management system, for example, the introduction of a special system of “renting” premises by schools and structural divisions of FEFU, expanding the campus operating hours to around the clock.

    Rent as a development tool

In our project, it is fundamental to introduce some kind of conditional rent for all users of university premises,” says Vladimir Nikolaev. - At first glance, this idea may seem very strange. The point of this is not to find funds, but to create a system for monitoring usable space on campus. “Rent” - we took such a strict term in order to focus the attention of users on the rational use of premises. Accounting for the use of premises and payment for them in some conventional equivalent will show us the demand for classrooms and the possibilities of their use. This innovation has an objective basis: each space has its own price, because in any case, someone maintains this space and pays for its square meters. This “rental” should be reflected in any service on campus - be it a classroom, leisure space or laboratory.

We believe that such “monetization” will improve the efficiency of use of premises. When a manager analyzes his activities through the lens of pay, he begins to rationalize them. For example, the school director. He sets priorities, knows the area of his department and what educational programs he has. It must see whether its educational programs can recoup the amount of space they use. If these programs allow you to pay “rent” for the space used, then their work is effective. It will be very good if Schools begin to introduce new educational programs that will recoup the space they use and even generate income. Conversely, this approach may identify ineffective programs. This is a complex and ambiguous calculation that must be used individually. But in the end, a natural selection of educational programs should occur, and the School will form a certain portfolio of products that it is ready to support. They are ready to go to market with them because they are competitive. And this is a special incentive to attract foreign students. “Rent” is a tool that should make you think, one of the mechanisms for transforming the campus and the entire university, emphasizes the vice-rector.

    Forward to the future

As the project developers said, the actual work on the implementation of the project ideas has been going on for a long time. The Ajax co-working space has been equipped, project competitions for campus development are held, and classrooms for independent work are created in each School. The start of an audit of the premises is planned for the spring of this year, and a dispatch service for classrooms will be organized. The rest of the work is provided for in the master plan for the campus space.

Our campus is very interesting and truly unique,” noted Vladimir Nikolaev. - If you compare it with other campuses in the world in terms of the combination of its features - position, infrastructure, ecology, potential, it has significant advantages and can be very attractive. But it needs to be improved. Significant areas have not yet been developed and inhabited. The implementation of the Campus 24/7 project will help not only transform the campus, but also make the entire university as a whole better and much more competitive.

We would like to remind you that Vladimir Nikolaev, Vice-Rector for FEFU Campus Development, and Director of the FEFU School of Art, Culture and Sports participated in the development of the Campus 24/7 program Victoria Proshkin a, Director of the FEFU Youth Policy Department Ilya Yaskov, Director of the FEFU Department of Property and Land Relations Olga Kuzina, Associate Professor, School of Pedagogy, FEFU Sergey Karpenko, Associate Professor, School of Economics and Management, FEFU Olga Sinenko.
