The owners of many private houses use automatic light switches in everyday life. Such inclusion of light is very convenient already at the entrance to the gate, especially in the dark. In order to use such a lighting system, you do not need anything special. It is enough, together with the switch, to install a device that turns the light on and off at the right time. This device is called a motion sensor.

An important point after installing and connecting the system is setting up a motion sensor for lighting. Thus, the lighting in the house will work, providing the owners with maximum comfort.

Motion sensor: principle of operation

Before installing the sensor, it is necessary to study how it works. The principle of operation of the device must be known in order to correctly place it exactly in the place where it is really needed.

The sensor is based on infrared radiation, the action of which allows you to detect moving objects and respond to them. The infrared radiation spectrum makes it possible to operate the device even in complete darkness. The principle of operation of the device is very simple. All movements are captured by an infrared sensor. After that, an appropriate signal is sent to the relay, through which electric current is supplied to electrical appliances. The lamps will work during the whole time while the movement is fixed by the infrared emitter. If there is no movement from the sensor, the signal again goes to the relay, but in order to turn off the power supply. If desired, you can set a specific time interval for shutdown. Thus, the sensor and the relay together play the role of an automatic switch that reacts to all movements occurring in its area of ​​​​action.

Currently, ceiling and wall motion sensors are used. They differ in the installation location and the range in which all movements are confidently captured. Ceiling sensors have a wider range. However, wall-mounted appliances can be installed not only indoors, but also outside. As a rule, they are used for automatic street lighting.

Installation and connection of the motion sensor

For the device to work as efficiently as possible, it must be properly positioned. Typically, the sensor is mounted in places where there is the most intense movement of people in the dark. Such places are chosen not only indoors, but also in the yard.

Of great importance is the direction of the device. Each motion sensor is equipped with an adjustable base, with which infrared radiation is directed in the desired direction. With a normally set direction, the device should capture the presence of a moving person as clearly as possible. As a rule, the installation of the sensor is made at the highest point inside or outside the yard.

There is one important point to keep in mind. All lighting devices, the operation of which will be carried out automatically, using a motion sensor, must be connected to a separate cable line. If necessary, a separate switch can be connected to this line. Even a single sensor-controlled light is connected to its own wiring.

Direct connection of the device to the electrical network is quite simple. Each sensor has 3 or 4 wires for connection. With four wires, the whole process is simplified as much as possible. The input wires (phase and neutral) are connected to the power supply, and the two output wires are connected to the lighting fixture.

If there are only three wires in the motion sensor, the connection will not be much more difficult. Here, instead of two output wires, there is only one. Therefore, the connection of the lamp is carried out to a single output wire and to the zero input. Power is supplied in the same way as with four wires. As a rule, detailed instructions with a connection diagram are attached to each device. In order not to confuse the wires, each of them has its own. The entrance is indicated in brown or lilac, and the exit is red. The zero wire is always blue.

How to set up a motion sensor

Setting up the normal operation of the motion sensor is much easier compared to connecting it to the electrical network. The setting process is carried out using three control levers.

The main adjustment is made with the TIME lever. It allows you to set the required time delay, after which the lamp turns off. Increase or decrease of time is set by turning the lever in one of the directions - clockwise or vice versa. On average, the time interval is 1-10 minutes.

During the daytime, the sensor should work correctly. To do this, there is a rotary mechanism LUX. The operation of the device will depend on the level of illumination. If the amount of daylight is above the set level, then the lights will not turn on. When the light starts to decrease, the sensor will trigger and turn on the light.

In addition to these basic adjustments, the installation angle of the motion sensor, which is manually adjusted by a special hinge, is of great importance. The device must be directed in such a way that the infrared rays cover the maximum amount of area. The same operation can be carried out using the SENS rotary lever, which sets the limits of detection. The diameter of the range can reach thirty meters. If necessary, the entire range is divided into separate sectors of 45 degrees. Thus, a more accurate detection area is set, which is blocked by a special limiter.
