Recently, more and more PC users prefer to purchase 5.1 acoustics. Such acoustics are well suited for watching movies, and for games, and for listening to music. Although music lovers prefer a stereo pair. This is facilitated by the fact that high-quality sound cards are embedded in modern motherboards.

When I bought my first 5.1 speaker, I had to buy an inexpensive discrete VIA sound card, the motherboard could only provide a stereo output.
In games, especially in online battles, surround sound is of great help in positioning the sound source, you can hear the enemy sneaking up from the back. But unfortunately, not everyone can properly set up such acoustics.

I want to tell you how to do this using the example of my, already old, but still relevant, Sven SPS-860 system. The speakers were purchased back in 2008, for about 3 thousand.

I connected the speakers to the ASUS AM2 motherboard, but I could not set up a good sound, the reason is, as now I understand not the best audio chip of the motherboard, some extraneous clicks in the speakers, and the use of the VIA audio card was not possible, drivers for windows 7 64bit are already not released.
Then I used acoustics for home theater, connecting to a DVD BBK, to a satellite receiver and to a multimedia player. So that the number of audio inputs allows, and a total power of 80 watts was enough for a room.

Once purchased. I connected this acoustics to the computer again, by this time I had already changed the motherboard to, with the Realtek ALC889 codec audio chip.

The audio driver made it possible to more flexibly adjust the sound of the acoustics, especially pleased with the deep bass that appeared from nowhere and good sound volume.

To do this, in the speaker settings, I unchecked the "broadband speakers" items. Many people think that it is enough to perform the setting in the Realtek manager, and do not go to the speaker settings tab, duplicate the settings, and then ask why surround sound does not work.

And I adjusted the room correction function in the Realtek manager, adding a decibel to the subwoofer and setting the distance to the speakers.

It is also important to correctly position the speakers around the perimeter. Difficulties often arise with the installation of a rear pair. Hanging on the wall is far away, I made it on homemade stands, and installed it behind the chair at head level, when not needed, I put it in a corner. Another important point is the correct connection of the polarity of the speaker cables, + usually the wire is red. But if the wires are not marked, you can use a battery: if the speaker diffuser moves forward, then a wire going to the plus is connected to the plus of the battery.

By the way, the diameter of the subwoofer speakers is 165 mm, the power is 30 W, there is a bass reflex hole, the body is made of wood. In general, the subwoofer produces a wide range of low frequencies; in games, explosions and shots sound very realistic. But the satellites are plastic, 10 W each, but unlike other budget models, they have two speakers - medium and high-frequency. Hence, a small breakthrough in sound quality in the high frequency region. Another interesting feature is a virtual 5.1 sound processor, which makes it possible to output even stereo sound from the stereo inputs to all 5 speakers. And not an unimportant option - after turning off the volume settings are reset to the average value, you will not go deaf when turned on, if you listened at maximum volume in the evening and forgot to turn the sound to a minimum.
