After all, there are manufacturers that produce very good tools, and there are those whose products are best avoided altogether. It would be nice to know who is who. But first I will make a short review of the classes of power tools, the rating itself will be at the end of the article.

Deciding to buy a power tool and coming to the store, you are immediately faced with so many items that your eyes run wide. And immediately notice that the prices for different brands are very different.

Some people think that some companies overprice their products just because of their well-known name (the hackneyed phrase “you overpay for a brand”), others, on the contrary, think that a cheap tool is necessarily bad. In fact, neither one nor the other is right.

Simply, all power tools can be divided into two large classes: household and professional. Household is cheaper, professional is more expensive. And if you bought a household item for professional activities, then naturally you will say later that it is bad.

Or, if you again bought a household appliance for household chores, and Vasya’s neighbor is a professional one, then, of course, you think that Vasya “overpaid for the brand”, since neither your nor your neighbor’s tool breaks down.

Let us now consider these two classes of power tools separately.

household tool

The household tool is intended for infrequent use in everyday life when carrying out any one-time work. For example, it is convenient when there is a puncher at home, so that you can easily and simply hang the shelf you just bought yourself, and then put the puncher in the back drawer again for six months until the next need.

When working with household units, you should follow the recommended mode of operation for them - 15-20 minutes work, 10-15 - rest. If you do not give periodic rest, then, of course, it will not break right away, but in general, its total resource will decrease significantly.

Sometimes you can hear that someone, having bought a cheap power tool, works with it for hours without rest, and even every day, but at least he has something. Well, yes, such cases do happen. However, there are many more people in the world who tried to work just as hard, and as a result, their apparatus broke down very quickly.

The household class can be further divided into two types. Conventionally, they can be called "Chinese" and "non-Chinese" (although most of the non-Chinese is still produced in China).

There are firms that do not produce equipment themselves, but only order it from a Chinese factory. At the same time, it is discussed in advance what color it will be and the sticker with what name will be pasted on it. Such a tool can be called "Chinese".

And the quality, as a rule, is the most “Chinese” in the usual sense for most. True, there is something better among this technique, for example, Bison, DWT or Stavr, there is worse, for example, Caliber, Whirlwind or Kolner, and there are also very bad ones, for example, Prorab.

Other firms have their own production, even if some of them are located in China. That is, they built the factories themselves, they have their own technologies. Such a tool can be called "non-Chinese". These are, as a rule, long-established manufacturers, such as, for example, Skil, Black and Decker, Ryobi, Bosch (green).

The “non-Chinese” subclass is generally better than the “Chinese” subclass. Therefore, in order not to miscalculate, it is better to purchase it for home use. True, the price here is somewhat higher.

"Chinese" is logical to buy when you urgently need to do a one-time job, and you are limited in the budget.

professional tool

A professional tool has a long resource and is designed for long-term work. It does not have as such restrictions on the time of work, but you should not work with it to such an extent that it melts in you.

It is quite simple to determine that you have a professional tool in front of you, since there are not so many brands that produce it. The main brands in this class that can be found in stores today are Bosch (blue), Makita, Hitachi, Dewalt, AEG, Kress and Metabo.

A total of 7 manufacturers. Of course, there are others, but these seven manufacturers are the most represented in Russia.

Naturally, all these products are produced at the companies' own factories. Therefore, do not be afraid to buy it, even if it says that it is made in China.

It is clear that the main purpose of a professional power tool is to work in a professional environment. However, no one will forbid you to buy it and your home. Thus, you will insure yourself against sudden breakdowns, which household appliances, even with proper operation, sometimes happen.

Naturally, if you started a major renovation in your home, then it is also recommended to purchase professional equipment for this.

It should be noted that in addition to these two classes, there is also an intermediate one - the so-called semi-professional. It will be more reliable than household, but it does not reach the professional level. This class includes, for example, Sparky devices.

In addition, there is also a super-reliable class, which is commonly called industrial. It is rarely seen in shop windows due to its high cost. Representatives of this class are, for example, Hilti, Milwaukee, Festool and others. This technique is practically indestructible, and it is used in industries where extreme loads are placed on the tool.

Final rating

Based on the information provided, we will compile our reliability rating:

1. Industrial grade. Examples are Hilti, Milwaukee, Festool.
2. Professional grade. Examples are Bosch (blue), Makita, Hitachi, DeWalt, AEG, Metabo, Kress.
3. semi-professional class. An example is Sparky.
4. Household class:

• - 4a. "Non-Chinese". Examples are Ryobi, Black&Decker, Bosch (green), Skil.
• - 4b. "Chinese". Examples are Bison, Caliber, Omax, DWT, Whirlwind, DeFort, Hander, Grad-M, Stern, Bikor, Prorab, Stavr, Kolner, Enkor and a few dozen more items.

Thus, now you know why different instruments have such different prices. I do not pretend to be one hundred percent true, but in general the picture looks something like the one described in this article.
