How to make a brazier from metal dimensions. How to make a brazier with your own hands - types, construction features, interesting photos

Brazier is a convenient and useful culinary equipment for cooking in the heat. This functional invention allows you to cook a variety of foods using the natural heat of the coals. Despite the fact that it was originally made as a universal cooking tool, today the grill is the basis for cooking meat and barbecue. Around it, trips to the country and nature are conducted, seeing off autumn, meeting the arrival of spring and celebrating summer. And below we will provide drawings of metal braziers, their photos and videos on the technology of manufacturing braziers of various designs.

Buying a barbecue is an expensive purchase. A simple metal structure sometimes costs a lot, without justifying its quality or its appearance. Therefore, it is much better to make a brazier with your own hands, using drawings, quality metalas well as your skills.

Barbecue base

The brazier is a convenient tool for cooking in the heat. It has a very solid construction, but all its features are nuanced. They allow you to quickly and easily prepare kebabs and other dishes, providing a sufficient amount of heat for cooking.

Among the main advantages of the barbecue are the following:

  • suitable sizes;
  • air holes;
  • depth;
  • recesses for skewers.

While some of them are obvious, they are all required for quality cooking. As for the depth of the barbecue, it allows you to gain enough heat and place the meat at a height where it will cook, but not burn. This way you can put in the required amount of wood.

Air vents are a particularly important aspect of these designs. After all, it is because of them that the meat that is cooked on the grill is very different from another method of cooking in nature. A regular flow of air allows you to keep the temperature and heat of the coals to their full potential.

Attention! Another nuance of the barbecue is a pallet. It prevents coals from falling through special ventilation holes into the bottom and facilitates partial air regulation.

For the further use of the structure, sizing is extremely important. After all, cooking takes place on a wire rack or skewers, so you need to build on its average size. The brazier should be wide, which allows to accommodate the entire length of the skewer and should provide the required amount of heat, allow placing more than eight servings of meat.

And the last nuance is the manufacture of recesses for skewers. They allow you to place meat in any position, evenly frying it from different sides. This approach plays a big role in the preparation of a fragrant and juicy shish kebab without sticking.

But these points always vary depending on the type of barbecue.

We decide on the type of barbecue: drawings, photos

It should be said right away that the varieties of such designs are numerous. After all, everyone wants to find the best optionwhere to cook meat and other foods in the heat. Today, the following types of barbecue are distinguished:

  1. Usual.

An ordinary brazier has a square design. Although they have heavy weight, can be carried over. It often has removable legs.

  1. Collapsible.

Lightweight and small collapsible version that you can carry in your car. It is more convenient and simpler, and also suitable for hiking in the forest.

  1. Stationary.

Powerful brazier made of metal. It can be based on brick blocks that provide high reliability. Often such barbecues can be supplemented with steel decorations.

The choice of the type of barbecue is very responsible for its self-construction. Thus, you can determine the tasks and choose the best way... However, it is recommended to choose the regular type as the most versatile choice for summer residents.

Attention! Braziers can have different shapes. Round, rectangular, bent and other types are noted, the cooking on which may differ slightly.

Drawings of metal braziers: photos of different types

Before making the corresponding drawings and choosing the dimensions for the future barbecue, for the construction you need to choose the best option, which is most often used. It is necessary to select the appropriate width and height of the structure, and the appropriate length of the legs. A drawing of a conventional barbecue is provided as follows:

Sizes in millimeters. It is clearly visible on it that the total height of the barbecue with a leg length of 70 cm and a length of 95 cm. The depth of the barbecue will be 25 cm, which is the optimal distance from the heat to the skewers.

The width of the barbecue is 28 cm, which is slightly below the average size of the skewer. The length is 54 cm, you need to evenly distribute 9 servings over the heat.

The upper part of the structure is equipped with skewer gaps. So, you can evenly distribute the meat and fix it freely when rotating, ensuring even roasting. Moreover, the distance between the gaps should be 6 cm. It is necessary to leave space between the extreme walls and the gaps so that the meat does not touch them, and also does not burn.

Excellent ventilation is an important nuance. Here it is achieved as a result of holes with a diameter of 12-15 mm, located on the side walls. The holes are at the bottom of the metal sheet in a checkerboard pattern. They are not needed on the front sidewalls.

Attention! The presented design does not imply the presence of a pallet and holes at the bottom of the barbecue. You can easily fix this by welding small corners to the bottom or legs and choosing the appropriate sheet of metal.

How to prepare the elements of the future structure?

Metal sheets act as a basis for the barbecue. We do not recommend using other materials, as the grill provides sufficient structural resistance to compactness and heat. The thickness of the metal should be approximately 2-3 mm. For work you will need:

  • Two sheets of metal with dimensions of 280x250 mm and 240x250 mm.
  • One sheet of metal 540x280 mm.
  • Corners 700 mm long and four metal pipes.
  • Welding machine.
  • Drill.
  • Roulette.
  • Saw for metal or grinder.

Most people prefer a different build option. Different sheets can be replaced with a large metal sheet. By making cuts, you can join a structure with few welds. Thus, it will be more reliable.

It is also important to consider additional elements if the design differs from the above. It can be supplemented with a pallet, carrying handles, foot recesses and more.

First of all, you need to do some preliminary markup. Places of welding and fasteners are marked, special gaps are created. For this, a saw or grinder is used. Air holes are also created at this stage.

Attention! Often such a structure is made on reinforcing legs. They are unreliable, since the structure will stagger even under light loads. Therefore, it is better to replace them with corners.

How to weld a barbecue with your own hands

Welding - best solution for the barbecue. It is capable of withstanding high temperature fluctuations and effective bolting. To do this, use a welding machine, regardless of its type. Then the structure is fixed in turn, and welding is performed in the corners.

Attention! For more convenient welding, it is worth using metal corners along the sides. They can also increase the reliability of the seams, as well as significantly weight the structure.

Then comes the welding of the handles and legs. They are fixed along the sides (corners) or to the bottom of the structure (pipes). It is necessary to weld them securely, since the grill itself will be quite heavy.

Attention! To fix the legs, you can use collapsible elements rather than a welding machine. Removable legs will significantly reduce the dimensions of the barbecue during storage.

Upon completion of the work, you need to grind the seams, and also check the entire structure for reliability.

Metal barbecues with a canopy: drawings

To cook kebabs in bad weather, you can use a special barbecue design. This allows you to hide the heat and meat from precipitation, but in itself such a design is not simple. There are two options for action:

  • installation of a canopy directly on the barbecue;
  • installation of an additional canopy that does not apply to the barbecue.

The latter option will be more rational, since it allows you to hide not only kebabs, but also the person who is watching their preparation. The first option requires additional costs, since the base must withstand the load from the canopy.

In this case, we recommend fixing the structure to metal corners. This is the best option as it makes it easier to assemble. The canvas for the canopy is most often corrugated board. It is fireproof, does not react in any way to temperature extremes and is distinguished by its low weight, which is important for a lightweight design.

The assembly of the canopy is not much different from the usual one, and only fire protection and a competent location of the base are required. Thus, you can safely cook food without worrying about getting caught on the fittings.

It is worth noting that a metal brazier with a canopy is a difficult option that experienced welders can do. Here it is important to create robust design, the weight of which will be evenly distributed on the base. For stationary barbecues, such a canopy is much easier to make, since a supporting foundation can be arranged for them.

A canopy structure can be decorated with metal elements, as you can see in the photo. This will not only improve the appearance, but also make the canopy more stable and reliable.

Attention! If the roof is installed low, equip it with a special air duct.

Finished product painting

An important issue in the manufacture of a barbecue is painting. It cannot be dispensed with, since the metal used in the structure is subject to rust, and ash and soot do not improve its appearance.

For painting, special compounds are used, which have the following requirements:

  • heat resistance;
  • resistance to temperature extremes;
  • no harmful fumes.

The following coatings meet these requirements:

  • silicon-organic enamels;
  • heat-resistant paints for various purposes.

It should be noted that painting the barbecue with your own hands is a rather complicated and responsible process. They need special firing, after which they receive their properties. Another option is offered - oxidation. It is quite costly to perform, but it is possible to make it yourself.

It is better to choose black for paint. Since there will be a lot of ash and soot nearby, the rest of the coatings will quickly get dirty. On this color, the plaque will be absolutely invisible.

Attention! Painting should only be done on the outside. Inside, the coating peels off rather quickly as a result of high heat, and there is no point in this.

Making a brazier with your own hands is quite simple. For this you need a sheet of metal, a welding machine and a desire. However, it is worth adhering to the plan and scheme, since in the future any deviations may be reflected in the convenience of its use. But the materials of our site "Remontik", among which drawings will be especially useful metal braziers and their photos, as well as a video on manufacturing, will help you cope with this task.

One of the attributes of a suburban area are metal barbecues. Such designs, if desired, can be made by hand. By creating your own drawing, you can make a unique structure that will be used not only for its intended purpose, but also will be the decoration of the site. To understand which one design will fit for installation on your site, you should consider a photo of similar products.

Types of grills

The simplest metal structures are rectangular and differ small size... Coals are placed inside the body of a barbecue made of metal, creating the heat necessary for cooking meat. All braziers can be divided into several main types:

  1. Stationary structures. Such products are large and are installed on a foundation. Stationary barbecues are durable and reliable.
  2. Portable products. Braziers of the described type are lighter and can be easily transported in a car. They can be made of thin metal that deforms when exposed to physical impact. Such products are convenient and are often taken on vacation by many car owners.
  3. DIY mobile barbecues made of metal. Such structures are large in size, but at the same time equipped with wheels, thanks to which they can move around the site. Such barbecues are purchased by site owners who do not want to create a stationary structure for various reasons. An example is situations when the site is small and a metal brazier will not harmoniously fit into the landscape.

You can also find electrical products that have the function of automatically moving the skewers. Thanks to this, you do not have to worry about the uniformity of roasting meat. Such devices use spiral heating elements instead of coals.

Advantages of metal braziers

When choosing the type of barbecue, you first need to decide whether the structure will be stationary or portable. Stationary can be made of metal or brick. But most often, site owners acquire portable structures, since they perform their functions and do not take up much space.

Structures made of metal have the following advantages:

  1. The ability to move on the site. If the brazier is foldable, you can take it with you even without having a car (provided that the resting place is nearby).
  2. Uniform roasting of meat. Metal retains heat well, so the meat cooks quickly enough.
  3. The ability to create a design with your own hands. If you have a welding machine, you can make a brazier out of metal with your own hands.

By creating a metal brazier, you can make a design of any shape and paint it in the desired shade. In the absence of a welding machine, you can purchase a ready-made metal barbecue. These items are usually sold at garden supply stores. It is worth noting that in the absence of a welding machine, you can connect the barbecue elements with bolts.

Simple collapsible barbecues

The most simple barbecues are products that represent two racks in the shape of the letter P. For cooking meat, the racks are stuck into the ground, after which coals are located between them. It is worth remembering that due to the small height of such products, it will not be possible to fry meat while standing. At the same time, due to the lack of barbecue walls, heat loss occurs.

But if you are going on a hike, you should take just such a grill. Such products are not heavy and therefore cannot cause fatigue during the hike. To determine which design will be more convenient for you, you need to consider various photos of the described products. It is also important to determine the optimal position of the product.

Non-dismountable metal brazier

Before creating a barbecue, you need to think in advance about what materials and tools will be required for work and make a list. For the construction of a metal barbecue, you must have:

  • fittings and a metal corner for creating racks;
  • bulgarian;
  • drill
  • steel sheet required to create the main part of the barbecue;
  • welding machine

Some site owners do without a welding machine, connecting metal elements with bolts. In this case, it is worth preparing a drawing of the barbecue with dimensions in advance. You can take ready-made schemes. The drawing should display the height, length and other parameters of the structure. It is important to indicate the distance between the perforation slots and the skewer chamfers.

The distance between the ventilation slots in barbecues is usually about 7 cm. The length of the structure should be calculated taking into account the fact that there should be 8 skewers on the barbecue.

It is important to choose the right metal sheets to create a barbecue. These products must be at least 2 mm thick. The higher this indicator is, the more durable the entire structure will be. That is why many people choose 5 mm sheets.

Barbecue dimensions

When creating a drawing, it is important to accurately specify the dimensions of each structural part. When determining the optimal parameters, it is worth focusing on standard products with a height of 95 cm and a leg length of about 70 cm.The depth of the brazier in this case will be 25 cm, which is quite enough for effective frying of meat.

The width of many metal barbecues is about 28 cm. The length of the structure should be about 54 cm. With such parameters, 9 portions of barbecue can be freely placed on the barbecue. When creating a drawing, you should focus on the number of people who will rest near the barbecue. If the design is created for a large family, then the size can be increased. If the grill will be used for cooking meat for only 2-3 people, you can create a small structure.

On the top of the structure, you need to make gaps for the skewers. Thanks to them, you can evenly distribute the meat over the coals. The distance between the gaps should be about 6 cm, while leaving a space between the outer walls and the gaps. If this is not done, the meat may touch the metal and burn.

It is important to remember that the entire structure must be well ventilated. For this, holes are created on the side walls of the barbecue. Their diameter should be about 15 mm. It is important to make them at the bottom of the barbecue and arrange them in a checkerboard pattern. There is no need to make holes on the end walls.

Having indicated all the dimensions in the drawing, it is necessary to re-check it in order to avoid mistakes when connecting parts of the structure.

Creating a brazier from several sheets of metal

Most often, a brazier is created from several sheets of metal, which are connected to each other by welding. For work, you will need 2 sheets of 28 cm long and 25 cm wide. You also need to prepare sheets of 24x25 cm. In addition, you will need another sheet of metal (54x28 cm), which is needed to create the bottom of the barbecue.

For the legs of the barbecue, you can use metal pipes or corners. Their length should be equal to 70 cm. To create a brazier, it is necessary to prepare a welding machine, a tape measure and a drill in advance. You should also prepare a saw for metal or a grinder.

The metal structure can be equipped with carrying handles and other parts. For example, many people fix a canopy over the barbecue. This allows the meat to cook even in the rain. Before carrying out work, you need to make measurements again and mark the joints of the sheets. Skewer gaps are made using a metal saw or grinder.

Important! It is best to make the legs of the barbecue from metal corners. This is justified by the fact that the reinforcement is not reliable and the structure may stagger under load.

Brazier made of a whole sheet of metal

To simplify the process of building a barbecue, you can make it from one steel sheet. To do this, it is enough to make cuts in certain places, then bend the parts of the sheet and connect them using a welding machine.

The assembly takes place as follows:

  1. First, marks are created on the sheet metal.
  2. After that, the future shape is cut along the marked lines.
  3. In the next step, the edges are bent, resulting in a metal box. At this stage, the folded parts of the metal sheet are connected to each other.
  4. Then perforations are made in the lower part of the structure. Their diameter should be about 15 mm.
  5. After that, chamfers are made on the side walls.
  6. On the the last stage the legs are created and welded to the resulting metal box. It is best to make the legs from the corner, as they are more stable than rebar products.

The brazier obtained in this way will be more durable than assembled from several metal sheets. To make the structure more stable, the legs should not be fixed vertically, but with a slight slope.

Brazier from a barrel or gas cylinder

If you wish, you can create a brazier from a barrel or an old gas cylinder. To do this, it is enough to cut such products along. To maintain the integrity of the structure, the ends should not be cut.

Legs for such a barbecue can also be made from a metal corner. These structural elements are welded to the ends of the barrel. At the last stage, chamfers are cut to place the skewers.

Features of making a collapsible brazier

Collapsible braziers are usually made to be used when traveling by car. They can also be used in the case when there is a small free space near the house, which does not want to be occupied by a bulky non-separable structure.

To assemble the described products, it is not necessary to have welding equipment, since all elements are connected with bolts. Just as when creating a stationary brazier, you first need to make a drawing, which will indicate the dimensions of each part. The layout of a collapsible product is more complex, so it is important to carefully calculate and draw each element correctly.

After preparing each element of the frame, they are connected using bolts. Grover washers should be used to make the connections stronger. At the next stage, the legs are fixed on the base. Thanks to the use of bolts, the structure can be quickly disassembled if it needs to be moved. Many collapsible braziers are complemented by forged elements. To make the structure convenient to carry, it is worth fixing the handles on the body.

How to protect the brazier from corrosion

When creating any metal product it is worth remembering that it must be protected from corrosion. Various paints are often used. But when choosing such a composition, it is worth remembering that it must be resistant to high temperatures. You can also use a method such as bluing. After processing, a film forms on the surface of the material, which helps to protect it.

Bluing is performed as follows:

  1. First, the metal is degreased and cleaned;
  2. After that, the material is kept in a sodium hydroxide solution. It is necessary to immerse the metal in this composition for an hour and a half.

If you choose paint to protect your brazier, you need to determine the most suitable view composition. Often silver is used for the barbecue - a paint that contains aluminum powder.

Heat-resistant powder paints are often used. But it is worth noting that after applying such a dye, it is necessary to process the structure in a drying oven. Before painting the brazier, you need to remove any dirt from the surface, since their presence can lead to flaking of the coloring matter. Before choosing a certain shade, you can see a photo showing similar products.

In order not to spend money on purchasing sheet metal, you can use the old gas bottle... Such products are made of a sufficiently strong and thick material. In this case, a compact brazier is obtained from a gas cylinder. But before use, such products must be burned out in order to get rid of gas condensate.

To create a durable structure, you must follow a few simple rules:

  1. Metal cutting should be done as accurately as possible. The tolerance can be no more than 0.5 mm.
  2. The workpieces to be processed must be secured to the table with clamps. If this is not done, it will be quite difficult to cut the material exactly.
  3. For cutting metal, it is worth using a large angle grinder, as this allows you to make a smoother cut.
  4. Before carrying out work, you must find protective clothing, gloves and goggles. Failure to follow the safety rules can result in serious injury.

Having created a drawing of the future design in advance, you can do all the work with your own hands and create a reliable brazier.

Metal barbecues with a canopy

To be able to cook meat on a brazier in any weather, you can make a brazier with a canopy. It is important to decide. Will you create a canopy separately from the metal structure or will you fix it on the grill?

The first option is optimal, as it will allow you to comfortably fry kebabs in the rain. Moreover, the installation of this design is easier. If the second option is chosen, it should be noted that the canopy will create additional stress on the structure. That is why it is important to make a calculation before starting work.

The canopy should be secured using metal corners. This makes it much easier to assemble the product. The canopy canopy should be made of lightweight refractory material. Decking is best suited. It can withstand temperature extremes and is lightweight.

When drawing up a building plan, you should think about the location of the supports. If they are placed on the corners of the brazier, they will get in the way of the barbecue. If you fix additional elements for fasteners, this can lead to a mixing of the center of gravity of the entire structure.

If a canopy is being created for a ready-made brazier, it is important to calculate and determine how the additional elements will affect stability. If necessary, add additional legs. Structures with awnings are often additionally decorated with forged elements.

Original ideas

Before making a brazier, several original types of such products should be considered. This will help make the barbecue not only functional, but also a beautiful design.

Some site owners create braziers from old metal barrels. Such products can be with or without a lid. When choosing the first option, the cut part of the barrel is hinged and equipped with a handle. The lid remains open while cooking meat. Legs are welded to the edges of such a barbecue grill. They should be positioned so that the entire structure is stable and cannot fall from strong winds.

In some cases, the barrel is designed in such a way that the whole structure looks like a steam locomotive. To do this, it is enough to weld metal wheels to the supports and add metal sheets that look like parts of a locomotive.

You can also stylize a barbecue grill for a metal chest. In this case, the brazier is created wider and equipped with a lid with handles. This adds corners and rivets. Also, such braziers are often equipped with forged elements.

Having examined the photo with the image of the described products, you can understand which design would look better on your site. The choice of a particular option should be made only after determining the style of the site.

Many people complement barbecue grills with shelves, stands and wheels, which can be seen by looking at the photo. If desired, you can create a brazier in the form of a small car, carriage and other similar structures. Such metal braziers can significantly change the look of the site.

Having made a beautiful metal structure, you can freely invite guests to a barbecue.

Not a single holiday organized on coals is complete without barbecue or other meat, fish, vegetable dishes cooked on charcoal summer cottage or when going out into nature, therefore, in the arsenal of any owner there is usually such a convenient device as a barbecue. The main thing is to correctly imagine how to make a brazier with your own hands from metal, to have the necessary tools and materials for this, to have certain skills of locksmithing. There are many types of this useful "field" kitchen equipment on sale, but it is quite possible to make it yourself.

The first step is to decide on the most convenient model, since the brazier can be stationary, constantly standing on the site, or collapsible and mobile.

A stationary brazier can be multifunctional, since in its manufacture, adding a few additional elements, you can get not only a barbecue grill, but also a grill, barbecue or even a smokehouse. In addition, such a grill sometimes becomes a real decoration. landscape design plot.

The mobile grill is good in its own way - it is compact and can fit in the trunk of a car. This option is ideal for those who like to travel often not only to the country, but also to nature. A similar brazier can be collapsible or folding.

Tools and materials for manufacturing barbecue

Braziers can be different, but the materials, as well as the tools for their manufacture, in principle, do not differ from each other. The only thing that may differ is the amount of material, since if you plan to make a stationary brazier with a roof and additional decorative design, then different elements and metal will be needed much more.

So, for work you will need:

angle grinder machine - "grinder" with the required number of cutting and grinding wheels;

- an electric drill with a set of drills of the required diameters;

- jigsaw with metal cutting elements;

- tape measure, square;

- screwdriver;

locksmith tools - hammer, pliers, core.

From the materials you will need to purchase:

- metal sheet, thickness 2 ÷ 3 mm, old gas cylinder or metal barrel;

- metal corner, 25 × 25 or 20 × 20mm;

- pipe-square with sides 20 × 20 mm;

- fasteners;

- for some barbecues that have a lid, you will need hinges and a handle to open;

- for mobile grills, which are planned to be moved around the site, wheels will be needed for convenience. Their number will depend on the chosen model - two, three or four.

How to make a brazier with your own hands from metal - several options

There are many types of metal braziers, and they are made in different ways, so it is worth considering some of them so that you can choose the most suitable one.

Brazier from a metal barrel

A barrel is an excellent starting material for making a barbecue

The model of a barbecue made from a barrel can be made in two versions - with and without a lid. The first of them is made from two halves of the barrel, and the second from one.

Whichever option is chosen, you first need to draw a drawing of the future barbecue.

The figure should be clearly visible and understandable all the details and their dimensions. One version of the drawing is presented as an example, but it is quite possible to make changes to it. The drawn up plan will be the most important assistant in the manufacturing process.

The second point in the work on the barbecue is the preparation of all the elements from which it will be assembled.

  • You need to read this process, of course, from the main element - barrels... It needs to be cut, and there are two ways to do this:

- In half, in the height of the container - this method is suitable for both the first and second options of the barbecue.

- Another way is when only the top of the barrel is cut out. Subsequently, the cut out element will become a lid for the barbecue.

The edges of the cut container must be cleaned, freeing them from metal burrs.

  • Having prepared the barrel, you can navigate what size corner pieces will be needed to frame the opening. Therefore, the next step is cutting corners and pipes, which will later become legs and stands for the barbecue.
  • Further, all fasteners are prepared - it is best to purchase them with a small margin.

Brazier making

1. A brazier made of half of a barrel is easier to make than with a lid fixed on its back wall. To make it easier to work on the top of the barrel, it is best to start with the legs and stands. They are made from square or round pipes.

  • If it is not possible to bend the pipe in a semicircle, to the size of the barrel, then, having calculated correctly, you can weld a corner of two pipes, and then weld two pipes welded to it in a T-shaped structure. There should be two such legs with stands. They are welded together with one or two jumpers, and, if desired, can be fastened with a kind of basket or net on which firewood can be stored.
  • Further, half of the barrel is placed in stands and welded. It is better to clean all welding points and seams immediately so that you do not return to the lower parts of the barbecue.
  • Then you can safely work on the half of the barrel. First, a corner is welded onto its edges - it will immediately give the product a neatness. In addition, it will be convenient to put skewers on such a shelf.

If it was planned to use the brazier also as a grill, then the racks for it can be fixed, as shown in the diagram, to the stand for the container or to the sides of the half-roll itself and to the corners at its edges.

If it is decided to make a lid from the second part of the barrel, it is also scalded with a corner. Then the hinges are welded to the halves - and the lid is ready. To make it comfortable to use the lid, you need to attach a handle and a metal holder with a movable mount to it. It is installed on one or both sides of the barbecue.

  • To make the brazier also serve for barbecue, you can put a net on top of the half roll. For her, special support elements are screwed into the edges of the barrel.

  • To ensure good traction in the barbecue, round holes are drilled in the walls of the lower half-roll.

2. In the second case, the barrel is not cut in half, but a pre-marked part is cut out of it, which has a rectangular shape in plan.

In this model, food being cooked on fire will be protected from the wind by the back of the barrel. The photo clearly shows how barbecue grills are installed.

  • If this option is chosen, you do not need to scald the edges of the barrel - they should only be very well cleaned and rounded.
  • The rest of the work is carried out in the same sequence as in the first case, and the hinges are screwed or welded to the top of the barbecue and the lid. In this model, the holder for the lid is not needed - reclining, it will rest on the top of the barbecue.

It should be noted that a function can be added to this brazier. To do this, fix in the side chimney... In any barrel, there is always a neck with a stopper that can be used for pipe installation. But you need to think about this in advance before starting to cut the barrel, since the hole must be located at the top of the barbecue.

If necessary, for convenience, from the sides of the barrel, both in the first and in the second version, you can arrange shelves-tables. To do this, metal brackets are welded to the barrel, on which a wooden or metal coating is subsequently fixed.

Braziers are made in the same way from gas or oxygen cylinders. But it must be borne in mind that they will be narrower and designed for short skewers.

As mentioned above, wheels can be attached to any of the described braziers for the convenience of moving it around the site. But the described options are mobile only within the territory of a suburban area - it is extremely inconvenient to transport it over long distances.

A barrel or cylinder is an excellent material for making a barbecue. There is always room for imagination - just look, for example, at the options presented in the video:

Collapsible brazier

A collapsible or folding brazier will not be superfluous in any house or even in an apartment. It is compact, so it does not take up much space, as it can easily fit on a shelf in a pantry or mezzanine. Such a grill can be used not only when leaving the countryside, but also in the courtyard of a high-rise building, of course, observing all fire safety rules.

When planning work, one should proceed from the fact that when folded, the brazier looks like a thin suitcase that will contain all the accessories for frying meat. So, for example, camping skewers have a length of no more than 600 mm, which means that the length of the barbecue can be only 630 ÷ 650 mm, and its width when unfolded is 400 ÷ 450 mm.

The brazier shown in the photo is not so difficult to make on your own. To make it you will need:

- steel sheet with a thickness of 2 ÷ 3 mm - large walls of the barbecue and installed triangular side elements will be made of it;

- steel corners 10 × 10 mm - they will scald the main planes. In addition, such corners are fixed in the inner part of the walls of the barbecue and serve as supports for a grate made of steel wire;

- loops for fastening and folding the two halves of the barbecue;

- folding legs are fixed from the sides, which, when disassembling the barbecue, fit exactly along the height of its walls;

- steel bar Ø 7 ÷ 8 mm - needed for the device of the handle on the halves of the brazier;

- finished steel mesh or wire for its manufacture.

Manufacturing process

  • It is best to first make a drawing and put all dimensions on it, so that later you do not have to redo the work due to the slightest inaccuracy.
  • Next, you need to draw on the metal, and then cut out all the necessary details from it:

- Two main walls of the barbecue, measuring 400 × 630 mm or 450 × 650 mm.

- A square of 400 × 400 mm or 450 × 450 mm. Then, it is cut diagonally and two equilateral triangles are obtained, which will rigidly hold the entire structure.

- Cut out blanks from the corner, you need 4 pieces. 630 ÷ 650 mm and 4 pcs. 400 ÷ 450 mm for framing the walls of the barbecue and supports for the grill.

  • Next, you need to make two elements on movable mounts of the type of furniture - these will be the folding legs of the barbecue. To do this, four strips, 10 mm wide, are cut out of thick metal, or corner pieces are used. Their length can be from 400 to 600 mm, but the higher the legs are, the more unstable the structure will be.

When all the elements are prepared, you can start assembling the barbecue. To be indistinguishable from a factory-made one, you need carry out work very neat.

  • The first thing to do is to refine the front and back walls of the barbecue by thoroughly cleaning and scalding them on three sides with a corner.
  • Further, having marked the location of the mesh in the brazier, weld or screw the corner-stands under it.
  • The next step is to mark and weld the loops to the walls, from their long side, not scalded with a corner.

  • Then, on the sides of the assembled structure, folding legs are fixed so that they can be extended to a certain width and easily folded when assembling the barbecue.The angle of the open barbecue should be 45 degrees, so that prepared metal triangles - the side walls - can be easily inserted on the sides.
  • In the upper part of the canvases, two holes are drilled, and handles bent from a steel bar are installed and welded into them. If desired, you can install a hook so that the brazier does not open when assembled.

In conclusion, you can assemble the entire structure completely, lay a metal mesh on its bottom and try to cook a barbecue.

In addition, if desired, a nozzle is made that will help you cook barbecue. In this case, the grill will become multifunctional. For this element, you will need to cut and weld five elements together. These are lateral parts-nozzles, having an angle of 45 degrees in the lower part - they will be installed instead of lateral triangles, two long front sheets and a grill installed from above. You can also make this part collapsible - cut in the side parts large canvases holes and weld to the side parts narrow cloths special hooks that should easily enter them.

Another interesting version of the barbecue is presented in the proposed video:

Stationary brazier made of sheet metal

If you plan to use the grill only in the country, without transporting it from place to place, then you can, without complicating the task, stop at the simplest version, which can only "roam" on the site and be installed on a flat hard surface.

Before starting work, of course, you need to make a drawing - it is very easy to draw up it yourself, since there are no complex elements in this option. Having purchased everything you need, cut out the blanks, relying on the dimensions indicated in the drawing.

As an example, consider finished drawing , and based on it, make your own, adding elements to it that will make it more comfortable to use.

  • A metal sheet with a thickness of 2 ÷ 3 mm is used, a steel corner of 10 × 10 or 15 × 15 mm, which will be necessary for the manufacture of legs and a frame for a barbecue. If it is planned to arrange shelves on one or both sides of the barbecue, then a corner will also be required for their manufacture.

  • The details of the barbecue are marked on a metal sheet. If the metal has a small thickness (about 2 mm), then it can be bent, saving yourself from unnecessary work on welding the seams connecting the walls and bottom of the barbecue. In this case, having made the markup, four are cut from the sheet quadrangle - and the shape of the cross is obtained.
  • The middle part is the bottom of the barbecue, and the other four are the side walls. They must be bent at right angles to the bottom.

The walls are bent perpendicular to the bottom ...
  • The next stage is the walls between each other at the vertical corners.

... and then boiled in vertical corners

Owning the necessary tools and experience of working with them, you can safely one two day to make a brazier, thereby saving a considerable amount from the family budget. Having done the work efficiently and accurately, you can be sure that the resulting product will not differ from the factory models and will reliably serve for many years.

Grill grate: Choose cast iron or from of stainless steel... Fits on corner ledges.
Foundation: concrete platform (8-10 cm) on a cushion of compacted rubble (8-10 cm) ensures the stability of the grill structure.
Brick walls: They form a closed grill frame, reducing wood consumption by 65% \u200b\u200band protecting against hot sparks.
Ashpit: sheet of metal for fuel. Placed 20-35 cm below the grill grate.

Do-it-yourself grill or buy?

If you have bricklaying skills, no back problems and a couple of friends who are ready to help you, then you can make a brazier yourself over the weekend.

Where to place the barbecue at the summer cottage?

Determine the prevailing wind direction and position the grill so that smoke does not fly into the house or recreation area.

What to make a brazier?

Concrete foundation blocks - the cheapest construction material for the barbecue. Inside the firebox, it can be overlaid with refractory bricks for greater heat retention. Outside, the grill can be overlaid with natural stone.

Natural stone - natural stone retains heat well. Plan enough time to select and fit the stone. In addition, it is good to have some kind of surplus stone in reserve, because it is difficult to predict the exact consumption of material for the construction of a natural stone barbecue.

Red ceramic brick - almost the best choice for the construction of a barbecue. Outwardly attractive, retains heat well, is not afraid of interaction with open fire. For a brick barbecue, you need a little more skill in brickworkthan for a barbecue made of concrete blocks.

How to heat the grill?

Use dry fruit logs, which give an unforgettable flavor to all grilled meals. Provide a place in the barbecue structure where you can put in advance the suitable logs that you received when pruning fruit trees.

Barbecue tools.

Forceps - the longer the better for your safety.
Brush from metal for cleaning the grill grate.
Gloves barbecue that can withstand high temperatures.

Additional barbecue facilities.

Brazier with a spit, which will make it possible to evenly fry a large piece of meat.

Brazier with chimney - will allow to collect and remove smoke upward away from summer kitchen or a gazebo next to which a barbecue is installed.

Fireplace with barbecue - do you want to build something grandiose in the country? We build a fireplace for a patio or a summer cottage, into the walls of which we embed corners to support the grill.

The grill rack must be hot. Preheat for 15 minutes before placing the meat on the wire shelf.

Arrange different temperature zones for the grill grate by moving some of the coals to one side. Fry meat on the warmer side, vegetables or fish on the cooler side.

Do not turn the food on the wire rack every minute, so that the meat is fried, it is enough to turn it over once, frying for 5-6 minutes on one side.

Add flavor. Whatever the wood in your grill, you can always ennoble the aroma of the food you are cooking by soaking a couple of branches of fruit species in water for a few minutes and then placing them on hot coals.

Give it a rest. Leave the cooked meat to cool for a couple of minutes, so it is better to distribute the juice in it.

The correct charcoal for grilling is red with a slight touch of gray ash.

Barbecue and security.

Food poisoning. Wash your hands, buy meat in safe places. it best advice to avoid food poisoning in the midst of your picnic in the country.

Charred meat. Do you like well-done meat? Don't charcoal the kebab to black! Charred food particles double the risk of cancer. So that you can raise a toast to health and meat with a slight redness inside.

Carbon monoxide poisoning. Everything is good in its place. If you are cooking on the grill in bad weather and you have a crazy thought “why don’t I do it in the garage”, chase it away with a nasty broom. Indoor carbon monoxide concentrations can be dramatic for you.

Fire. At least 3 m from buildings, wooden fences, sheds, etc. will enable you to avoid colossal fire damage and serious injury.

Heatstroke. "It's so hot in here that I have enough blow." This may not be just a joke. Overheating can cause severe disease exacerbation for people with cardiovascular disease.

Casual clothes. Do not wear loose clothing with dangling sleeves or shelves when using the barbecue. A spark hitting it can produce a completely different fireworks than you planned.

Deep-frying. It is better to leave working with deep fat to professional chefs. Splashing fat particles, open fire - it is better not to overestimate ourselves, we are smart enough to understand “the game is not worth the candle”.

Watch out, wasp. Wasp stings are extremely painful and very dangerous for people with allergic reactions. Therefore, it is better to have anti-allergenic drugs in the medicine cabinet, and wear a long-sleeved shirt.

Coals and fire safety. Wait 48 hours before discarding the ash from the barbecue.

How to care for a barbecue?

Use a steel brush to clean the grill so that ash and food debris do not accumulate. Sprinkle the cooled grill with sunflower oil to prevent rust formation on it. Remove the ash after each use of the grill so as not to accumulate odors for the next cooking.

Whether you make a brazier yourself or buy a ready-made one, it will bring you many pleasant minutes when, with a kebab in hand, admiring an open fire in a pleasant company, you will get such a necessary respite from the tense daily rhythm.

Many people cannot imagine a full-fledged outdoor recreation without a fragrant barbecue. Craftsmen can make a brazier out of bricks with their own hands. This is a must for the off-site session.

Going into nature, you can build a compact structure from scrap materials. A gazebo equipped with a barbecue is more suitable for a summer residence.

Where to start construction?

Think about where you want to build a brazier. It is better to choose a recreation area for this.

Care must be taken to provide protection from the elements. Homemade hearth can be installed in summer cottage, under a canopy or in a partially open veranda.

Craftsmen often tackle the complex problem of how to make a brazier in the form of a multifunctional oven.

Indicators of average sizes: width - 1.6 m; height - 1.6 m; depth - 0.8 m. For a multifunctional oven, it is required to make a base, an example of which is a strip foundation.

The master usually complements a complex design with various functional add-ons:

  • Niches. They are convenient for storing skewers and other utensils.
  • Notches. They put firewood in them so that they dry out near the hearth.
  • Sink. It is installed when available real opportunity bring communications. It is convenient to wash your hands or dishes in it.

A table with benches is placed near the hearth. The owner is free to choose furniture from budget or expensive options, depending on their financial capabilities and taste preferences.

Barbecue drawings will help to competently create a project. After all, it is necessary to take into account not only the technical side of the issue, but also the aesthetic component.

If you look at the photo of the barbecue, then it should be the central element of the composition. In this case, it is important that all the surrounding objects are combined.

Brick barbecue construction

The design involves the construction of a solid foundation. It is made from sand, gravel, cement and refractory bricks. In addition to construction tools, the master will need a drill with a special attachment or a concrete mixer to prepare the solution.

It is necessary to prepare reinforcing bars with a reinforcing mesh, as well as metal corners with hardware. The master prepares the material in advance to create the lathing.

Phased construction

They outline the construction site and carry out the markup. After that, a foundation pit is created with a width of 0.6 m and a length of 1.6 m.

They are removed to a depth of 0.6 m upper layer soil.

Make a sand pillow. Its thickness should not be less than 10 cm. The pillow must be carefully tamped. Formwork is placed around the perimeter of the pit.

The next step is reinforcement knitting. Metal rods are interconnected in the form of a lattice and sink to the bottom of the pit.

Note!

A cement mortar is made and poured into the formwork. It must be pierced with a metal rod so that no air remains inside.

Grade 150 and 200 are suitable for the preparation of a cement mixture. Crushed stone with sand is also added to the solution. The proportional ratio of cement, sand and crushed stone is 1: 3: 5. For the solution, you will also need water - 1 or 2 buckets, depending on how wet the sand is.

The compacted mortar is smoothed and leveled. You need to make an even base under the bricks.

Roofing material and special mastics are used for waterproofing.

Once the foundation has hardened, you can start laying.

Nuances that a master should know about

Kiln bricks have excellent fire resistance, but they can become brittle in the cold. Therefore, a gazebo with a brick barbecue is the best option.

Note!

Before starting construction work, the material is soaked in water. Bricks are capable of absorbing liquid, which can negatively affect performance characteristics solution.

The mixture itself is prepared from other components and differs in consistency. It is made from cement, sand and slaked lime in a ratio of 1: 3: 1.

Laying begins from the corners. The length of the back wall is 3 bricks, and the sides are 2.5 bricks. The width must be at least 1.5 bricks. In the process of laying, the master gently taps the surface of the brick with a mallet in order to fit it closely to the neighboring one.

Metal construction

A brazier made of metal can be made by that craftsman who knows how to handle welding machine... The master will need sheet metal, metal corners or pieces of reinforcement, a pallet with a lattice of the same dimensions and a marker with a tape measure.

The design is a deep brazier with support legs. If desired, the owner can supply the brazier with a smokehouse, then the household will always have the opportunity to enjoy natural smoked delicacies.

Note!

Seasoned craftsmen can try their hand at making homemade barbecue. From two connected cylinders, they create a brazier-smokehouse. The master will need the ability to work with a grinder and a drill.

The chimney is made of a pipe, and the stands, handles and legs are made of metal. You need to prepare hinges, nuts with bolts, special enamel and a wick. Brazier from a balloon can be decorated at your discretion.

The main thing in this business is a creative approach.
