How to make a train from cardboard. How to make a steam locomotive and other land transport with your own hands

Probably, everyone is faced with the question of what to do with the trash accumulated at home. But this garbage can be useful! For example, you can make a small train from boxes with your own hands. So there will be order in the yard, and the flower garden will be able to decorate. In addition, this idea is practical for flower growers who do not have a lot of space on the site. And small garden berries - strawberries, wild strawberries will also sit well in the trailers.

Material needed to build a train

To plant more than one flower in the trailer, it must be roomy. For the manufacture of wagons, select boxes of different sizes. Containers made of metal, wood or plastic are suitable. And if you cut off the side wall of a large container (for example, from drinking water), then even a small tree can be planted in such a trailer. Take the wheels of the train from an old broken bike or trolley.

A wonderful train will turn out if the locomotive is supplied with wheels made of wood cuts, and for the train, pick up the same size lids from cans of paint.

For a steam locomotive boiler, an old saucepan or bucket is suitable. Carriages are beautifully connected with wire or unnecessary scraps of chains.

How to make a wooden train?

To build a train, use two wooden fruit crates. To make a cauldron, you need to turn one box upside down, attach a pipe (a long bottle or flowerpot) and several pairs of small wheels along the bottom edge. Plant flowers in the pot too (marigolds, asters).

It will be a little more difficult to make the driver's cab:

  1. You need to remove long slats from the bottom of the box and its long sides, and put the box itself on one end and measure the distance slightly above the middle of the long side.
  2. Cut out two pieces of plywood in the shape of a rectangle, equal in length to the previously taken measurement. The width of the rectangle must be equal to the width of the long side. Attach finished strips to inside walls, leaving at the top of the window.
  3. Also cut the roof out of plywood. Its length should be greater than the height of the wall to which the roof is attached.
  4. Attach wheels to both sides of the cab. Make their diameter larger than the diameter of the wheels selected for the boiler.
  5. Connect both parts of the locomotive using self-tapping screws.

If you attach the same wheels to the bottom of the wooden boxes, you get excellent cars. So that the engine does not distract attention from the multi-colored plants growing in it, it is better to paint it discreetly.

Locomotive from plastic containers

Make the front of the train from plastic box and bottles for drinking water. In this case, it is better to paint the parts before assembly.

A large aerosol can is suitable as a pipe. To install it, you need to attach the bottle cap to the top of the bottle, and then fix the bottle itself. Cut the front wall of the box a little to place the bottle in it. Covers or rims are suitable for wheels.

The cab is easy to make if you put two identical boxes on top of each other, which are better to fasten together for greater stability. It remains only to connect the boiler and the cabin.

For wagons, attach wheels to boxes and attach wagons to the locomotive.

Video about what else you can make trains for summer cottages

Every child dreams of a railroad, but not every parent can afford it. Such a colorful toy do-it-yourself steam locomotive from boxes you can do with your little one. Your child will roll his toy friends in it. In addition, such a locomotive can perfectly serve as a container for storing toys - children will be happy to seat their dolls and teddy bears in the carriages.

To make such a locomotive, you will need:

  • green and red self-adhesive wallpaper
  • trays for flower pots
  • double-sided and regular tape
  • plastic covers
  • carton boxes
  • lining fabric
  • aerosol enamel
  • eye bolts

Banana boxes are best for creating wagons. If the boxes have no bottom, then it will be more convenient to glue it with tape, putting in cardboard cut to size. For the wheels of the car, take plastic covers, cutting off all the irregularities with a knife. And necks from plastic bottles come in handy for attaching wheels to the box. Cut a hole with a knife to fit the neck of the bottle in the center of the cap.

1. Locate the wheels on the box, attach the cover and circle the hole. Then cut out the marked holes. Insert the neck of the bottle into the hole from the inside of the box. Put a lid on it, then secure it with a cap - this has been fitting so far.

2. Now cover the box with green self-adhesive. The eye bolts are useful for coupling the cars together. Use a screwdriver to make a hole in the box and, by inserting the eyebolt, tighten the nut.

3. Cut the holes for the wheels and insert the necks from the plastic bottles there.

4. Glue double-sided tape from the inside along the top edge of the box.

5. For the inner part of the car from the lining fabric, sew the liner by gluing it with double-sided tape.

6. Paint the caps with golden aerosol enamel and after drying, attach them to the necks of plastic bottles, thanks to this they will spin.

7. The trailer is ready! Now the most difficult thing is the steam locomotive!

8. Cut the sides of the box end. Deepen the wall slightly. Use a knife to cut the corners. This will be the front of the locomotive.

9. Cut out a piece of cardboard similar in size to the perimeter of the top. In addition to the bottom, cover everything with scotch tape and self-adhesive.

A juice box is suitable for the cockpit, and a plastic can for the bow.

10. Cut a hole on the box along the neck of the can so that it fits snugly into it.
11. Make a cardboard bottom from the bottom of the box.
12. Cover the box intended for the cab with self-adhesive, in addition to the top.

Make mounting holes.

13. Connect the cabin to the bottom of the locomotive - the bottle necks should go into the openings on the bottom of the cabin - and screw them on from the inside with the bottle caps. Do the same with the bow of the locomotive.

14. Make a hole to fit the neck of the bottle in the plastic can. And on the back of the can, perpendicular to it, make the same hole in the center of the can. Pipe - from the top plastic bottle... Paint it with gold spray enamel.

15. Cover the side of the cab.

Many probably saw or even bought trains for their children, or maybe even whole railways as toys for your beloved children.

And if you try to make a train with your own hands?

Materials for making locomotive:

    Wooden block 50 * 50 or 100 * 100 at your discretion. length from 50 cm;

    Pieces of wood (use pine, oak) details below;

    Sanding paper;

Crafting tools little train:

    Electric drill + desirable milling machine or engraver;

  • Clamp or vise;

    A set of chisels;

    Sander or grinder;

    Drills + perforated drill + cutters;

  • Pencil.

Making a train

The initial stage of manufacturing a steam locomotive

Prepare a wooden block of 50 * 50 mm or other larger size.

Using a compass, mark a semicircle along the end of the bar from 2 sides.

Grind the bar down with a planer until a semicircle is formed. For these purposes, it is convenient to use a clamp or a vice, but if you do not have them. you can try to trim without them, which of course will be a little more difficult.

Grinding a part

Through grinder or a sander, sand the semicircular block first with a coarse 60 grit sandpaper, then with a fine 180 grit sandpaper.

Locomotive body manufacturing

Mark the center of your block with a pencil, and use a feather drill to drill a hole down the top for the steam locomotive pipe.

As a pipe for a steam locomotive, you can use anything: decorative plugs or something else, but you can, of course, carve a part on lathe, that's more interesting.

Manufacturing of a steam locomotive cabin

Now let's start cutting out the cabin on the train.

For this we use a compass and a pencil.

We measure out 1/3 of the entire length of the locomotive. and mark with a pencil.

Measured it out?

Now measure out 1/3 of the end of the block, and make 1 more mark.

Draw lines for the notch, and using a hacksaw, cut off the excess part, but do not throw it away, we will still need it.

Surface finishing can be done with a regular plane.

Manufacturing of a roof for a steam locomotive cabin

Now, from the excess part from the previous step, we make a roof for the locomotive cabin.

To do this, hold the part in a vise and use a drill, router, or engraver to drill 2 through holes as shown in the figure.

To do this, first mark out, the edge of each hole should be in the center of the bar.

Drilled?

Now turn the part over, and again drill some holes as shown in the photo.

You need to clip off the cutout to give the detail a rainbow shape.

Shape the roof with a semicircular chisel.

Let's go back to the main body of the locomotive

Clamp the cut part in a vise or use clamps to fix it to the working surface.

Take a drill with a feather drill and drill a hole 1 to 2 cm deep.

We continue to work on the steam locomotive

Using a planer, cut a little along the edge of the semicircle to give the steam locomotive a more finished look, and use glue to glue the chimney, turned earlier on a lathe or something else.

We also glue the headlamp, the headlamp can be made from any round wooden object, for example, from old wooden candlesticks, etc. The edge can be turned on a lathe.

We collect the engine cabin

We made a figurine for the roof of a locomotive with you earlier. now you need 2 more small peg bars. Prepare from them 2 suitable bars for the cab walls.

Now we start gluing the parts.

First we glue the side walls, then glue the roof. For glue, use either a suitable liquid nail for the wood or use an electric glue gun.

Manufacturing of containers for bogies and wagons for a steam locomotive

For the manufacture of trolley containers, it is better to use oak bars.

Prepare such bars and drill 4 through holes in them for the axis of the pins, shown in the photo below, 2 on one side and 2 on the other.

For the manufacture of wheels we use hardwood, the wheels must be turned on a lathe. Although you can use parts for example from an old wooden or plastic massager.

If the wheels of the locomotive are stationary, then you can simply glue them with wooden pins, but if you plan to make the wheels mobile, you need to choose a suitable metal pin, for example, you can make it from a nail and a key.

Glue the container of the trolley to the body of the locomotive, and to the bar, carved for the car.

By the way about the carriage. Earlier in the photo, it was shown a coupler for the carriage, which was in the cabin, and in order to further connect the carriage with a steam locomotive, it is necessary to calculate and drill a hole in the carriage platform.

Final assembly of a steam locomotive with a wagon

Now that all the parts of the locomotive are made, you can assemble it into a single whole.

And start painting.

A homemade train for your child is ready, you can carry it as a gift, there should be a lot of joy and emotions.

Kirill Chernov, Samara

Greetings to you, dear friends, readers of the Family and Mom blog! Today, again, we have a craft on our site, and this time the children and I will tell / show how to make a do-it-yourself cardboard train for children with step by step photo instructions (or rather, from junk / improvised material that every mother has at home - boxes of juice / milk / kefir).

If your child, like my children, adores everything related to trains / steam locomotives (the locomotive from Romashkovo, Chaggintons and other cartoons with trains are among my children’s favorites), then please him with such a cardboard train made by himself, all the more, it takes a minimum of time to make it.

In such a homemade train, you can carry small toys - Lego men, toys from Kinder surprises and others. A small train made of cardboard has windows, a door, almost like a real train. It can be decorated - pasted over with colored paper, painted with paints, felt-tip pens, but we did not decorate it, since the children urgently needed to carry passengers and they could not wait any longer))

How to make a do-it-yourself cardboard train for children (photo instruction)

My kids have been sitting at home since the beginning of February (first because of the flu epidemic, and now due to the fact that in Lenin's group several children got into an infectious diseases clinic with an intestinal infection, so while we are sorted out with this, my husband and I decided that the children still sit at home).

While the children are at home, we come up with new games, activities every day, constantly looking for something interesting to have fun with. And the other day, the kids were playing with Lego men, small toys (from kinder surprises and other miniature ones) that "traveled" around the apartment)) By car, the little men were tired of moving around, so the children asked for help to build some new transport) ) We thought we thought and came up with the idea of \u200b\u200bquickly building a train from cardboard with our own hands (boxes of juice / milk), which will be discussed below.

To make a cardboard train, we need:

  • Long high carton box made of juice / milk / kefir (we have a box of liter milk) - 2 pcs. (depends on how long the locomotive you want to make - the more boxes, the longer the locomotive.
  • Rope for connecting compositions
  • Scissors / knife
  • Colored paper / felt-tip pens / paints for decorating the train (we left it that way, the kids had no time to wait - they had to carry passengers))
  • Passengers who will test the strength of the transport))
